I practiced this morning and pulled out some metal picks. I think I was inspired to do so by the Phil collen video. I tried an ice pix stainless steel but it was scratchy sounding. Then I tried one either brass or copper and it sounded and felt great. Anyone else using metal picks? I know strings will wear out faster, but I can deal with that better than picks wearing down.

Guys here are too much into resale and glamour shots..........you REALLY think they would use a metal pick?!?!?!?!?!?

I like brass myself, cool feel.

I bought some stainless and bronze picks from dr guitar picks (drguitarpicks.com). The bronze is actually an old cymbal is warmer than the stainless.
both sound great and have a very sharp tip for fast picking. Due to their strength I feel I can dig in more than with a plastic pick.
The ridges on the cymbal bronze pick make it easy to hold as well. Check em out.

I have only tried stainless and hated it. I will have to try Brass or Bronze sometime.

I Like the DR Bronze picks. I do a bit of work to them though, they are pretty useless to me with that super sharp tip. I just file them into a regular shape and polish them back up. They sound pretty good, and aren't too bad on string wear compared to stainless or other metal picks I have used. I have sent this guy some questions about different gauges a few times, but he never responds. He does respond well to orders though.

Pickboy stainless for me (gigs only), and only for hard rock/metal gigs. I've tried brass and copper but after a short time they feel like they grab the string too much...the stainless has always been fast and slippery in my experience.

Years ago I used to use stainless picks with Floyd's, EMG's and all that. They were great at getting pinch harmonics. Loved the tone. I used them for years. When I started to get more into different tones and textures, I went to plastic as I felt the steel just couldn't get 'light' enough if that makes any sense.

I use both stainless and copper- like copper better because it's easier to go "light" with them vs. the stainless. Might have to check out the bronze...

I have a brass pick made in the shape of a Jazz III buy one of the guys at Rumbleseat Music, I like it, it is very precise, but I tend to stick with the Jazz III in the end because it has a little give to it.

I also have this really cool Sterling Silver pick which is one of my lucky charms....(the Rev himself confirmed it was real)

Yup--just started again--brass only for now--will have to acquire some stainless...

i use dimes, i dont know why but it just feels natural. after getting used to them everything else just doesnt seem comforable. i may have to give some of those dr metal picks a try though, as the dime's tear strings up fairly quickly with the rough edges.
