Apple charged me $115 for a new battery for my 2 year old AirBook.

Should have brought me with you, silly boy.
Why the fuck didn't you have an umbrella with you?

I have a 17" MacBook Pro that I bought new in Sept 07. I bought the Apple Care 3 year warranty that expired last Sept. I use this for my videos and everyday for my lessons and so many other things. I had a mainboard replaced last year because of a video issue recall.

Last week the battery just stopped working and swelled up to the point where I had to remove it.

I drove to Ottawa last night to the Apple Store and showed one of the Apple Geniuses the battery and MacBook. I told him it was well out of warranty. He says "No problem sir, we can give you a new battery at no cost". He goes and brings me a brand new battery in a box and puts it in my MacBook and says that should keep you going for a while.
Wow! Very cool. A 3 and 1/2 year old battery replaced for free!

In comparison my TC G Major II has been at TC since Feb 16, sitting on the bench waiting for a part with no ETA...nice. They did say, however it would be covered by warranty even though it has expired. Very tempted to just buy a Rocktron Expression or something. My luck with TC FX has NOT been stellar and I have no faith in them.
I had a G Major 1 that locked and crashed like this G Major II.

I almost had the same experience except they sent me one via DHL in two days while I sat on my couch watching baseball.

Apple is great!

We have an imac macbook pro and a couple of iphones. The old saying once you go mac you never look back holds true for us.
I have pc stuff at work and every time I use it, it reminds me how much I love the mac.
I can't figure out why some people hate it so much. Everyone I know that has a mac loves it.
Having a mac store nearby is awesome. Anyone in there can answer any question you have.

Linux Owns you all...

Probably, but........even after going to their page I still don't know what Linux is.

Is it an operating system? I see it works on multiple hardware platforms? Do you need a particular machine to run it? Is it compatible with other platforms? What are the benefits?

Curious.
Its an open source operating system that geeks use. Its tough to learn at the start but you can pretty much tailor it to what you like. Much of the internet runs on it and the IT industry uses it.

You can get some decent music recording apps for it (hydrogen drum machine is capable of some nice sounds), and its all free. However the downside is certain distributions can be a little picky with certain hardware and its not always the most stable thing in the world. Apple is actually probably much better for music recording... ;)

I have recently had excellent service from Apple.

I own a Macbook which is an early 2008 model, and i was way out of warranty. The MagSafe charger randomly died on me right when i was charging my Macbook, so i took it over to the local Apple Store to get it checked out.

They replaced it free of charge and told me even though my warranty ran out, they will replace it again for free if it ever breaks again!

Damn, I have to go to an Apple store! Same thing happened to my Macbook battery. I ended up buying a cheap one on ebay. I love Apple products. (isn't Apple's OS based on Linux?)

After using Apple computers and ipods I can't go back to pc. They just feel so clunky and the Apple user interface experience is very impressive. When I fired up my mac for the first time I was so impressed with everything that I knew I'd couldn't go back! About to buy an iphone this week.

Apple is great I love it. Been an Apple user since 2004 when I got a 15" Powerbook. After that I've owned 6 ipods, two imacs, a black macbook, and an iPad along with accessory stuff.

I love apple man, best computer/operating system!

It's based on Unix

To the OP, Apple and Mac are by far the best. Totally ingenius and intuitive. It simply works.

Mega fan of Apple

Haha, that's what I meant.

Big fan here. I've had about 22 to 23 Apple computers in my life time (been using them for about 19 years now). Hell, my first Apple was an old school Mac SE. I had that thing until a few years ago when I decided to throw away most of my computers. Only have 3 in the household now.

This is my PC video card: Quadro FX 5800 Graphics Card - 4GB GDDR3 SDRAM 512bit

Its already 15 months old and I run it on Adobe CS5, primarily on the Mercury Playback Engine for rendering, so useful to be able to scrub through video prior to rendering, especially in real time.

The next version of this card is out and sporting 6 GB.

MAC is a very stable platform, but a few years behind when it comes to cutting edge brute force. I hear that Intel is dieing up Xeon's for Apple?

The new Quad-Core i7 Macbook Pros really fly. Can't wait to get mine. :)

The new Thunderbolt/PCI Express interface looks promising. I've been using Mac OS for 17 years, and the newest 10.6 is super stable, and fast as hell(at least on my machine).

The Applecare warranty is worth it's weight in gold. Even after it's out of warranty, you can usually get them to help you out. Best service I've ever experienced, and they take long-term customers into highest consideration. Highly recommended.

I bought a MacBook Pro in 2005. I took that thing clear across planet earth, no kidding, loading it and unloading it at countless TSA conveyer belts, and using the living daylights out of it. It hasn't so much as given me a hiccup in 6 years. I swapped out the hard drive for a Solid State Drive. If you've never used a Macbook Pro with an SSD, you are depriving yourself. Instant on and off. Flies like an eagle. When I did the install, I accidentally cracked the option key on the keyboard. It was WELL out of warranty but I took it to the Apple store in hopes that I could BUY a new key (or even keyboard if that was necessary). The guy said, "Gimme a minute" and took the laptop to the back. He came back 15 minutes later with the key replaced. I asked how much that would be. He said, "Don't worry about it. I had a spare."

Apple is a cut above the rest for sure.

go get yourself an old Lexicon unit man. I own 4 Lexicon MPXG2's and they have been rock solid for me...for the 8 years I have owned them! :)

yeah 2 years later I still have 15-20 second start up time from complete power off to on the internet. I have a regular hard drive.

I agree. PCs are where it's at for straight up power and obviously gaming, but Apple provides a unique and fluent user interface that is unbeatable! I'll be sticking with Apple for a long time for my recording setup and laptop needs. Might build a gaming pc someday too.

I bought an iMac a few years ago and I haven't been able to stand using a PC for anything since then. Never will I go back to that shit. I just bought a new Macbook Pro and it's also an incredible machine. I've been dying to get an iPhone for a while now too. Maybe for my birthday in July. :D

Yeah you're right,Apple is a great company and has done things like this in the past, even replaced my 2 year old Iphone,no charge.
BTW Get the Rocktron,i just bought one and i like it better then the TC Major 2.
