Keith Richards said it in a recent interview perfectly...

"Leo and Les got it right the first time back in the 50's man...ever since then, it's just been imitation".

The truth is that if companies like Suhr, Anderson, and Parker, existed in the 50s gibson and Fender would not exist today. In the 50s musicians did not have the choices we do now. They played what the had available to them. Unfortunately they were stuck with Gibson, Fender, Gretch, and few other knock offs. :bleh:

Sorry, but I don't agree with that statement at all-don't get me wrong, I've owned my share of Suhrs and Andersons-great guitars but they have made improvements on existing designs made by Fender and Gibson. To put it simply, the reason for their existence is because of Fender and Gibson.

+1 BIGTIME!!

AND... If I may, a lot of the cats who's musical inceptions started "back in the day" (Buddy, Richards, Clapton, Beck, etc.) play originals from "back in the day" often citing the fact that "they're the best - period". It's because these guys have deep pockets and recognition with their respective companies that they can have these historical relics to play. Them and John McEnroe.

Seriously, John McEnroe has a '57 Goldtop original...I believe it's stated value/purchase price was US$400,000. Yikes.

This argument can go either way... New companies have indeed created some fine instruments, but their quality and recognition is due to them taking the time to make them by hand, using more and more rare pieces of wood (which were pretty cheap in the 50's and 60's in some cases), and focusing on each instrument as its own entity. Other typical manufacturuers are all about the assembly line and bottom lines.

2 cents.
