Are linkable power supplies interchangeable? Can I link a Walrus Audio Canvas Power supply to a Cioks DC7?

The Cioks DC7 has a 24v output which can be used to power the Cioks 4 or 8 expander units.
Walrus sells units like the Canvas Power 5 and 8 that come with 24v outputs as well. Walrus markets these as linkable to their other power units.

Does it stand to reason that you can hook up a Walrus unit to a Cioks unit and vice versa?
Has anyone done this?

That is an excellent question. Good job.

Hah yeah I thought the same thing. What a great question, I genuinely have no idea.

My guess is that if:
  • the connectors fit (including matching polarity)
  • the voltages match
  • the "extension" piece draws less amperage than the providing power supply provides

... then you're probably good to go. But ultimately I wouldn't know for sure.

Right. This is my train of thought as well. Thanks for the response.

Any idea what I risk if I test this myself? What do I risk if I test hooking these together? The power supplies? The pedals connected to the power supplies? The cable?

That I couldn't tell you, unfortunately.

You should be able to, you can power Strymon expanders too and other stuff as well. You may need an adapter but not sure.

If you think it's a problem just stick to CIOKS, it's a better product in general too.

Technically you can run a Fender Engine room with a DC7 too with a courtesy IEC cable/Y cable.

But for real I have no idea. I can barely afford a power supply.

I would agree here with you Daniel. I am not happy with my Strymon power supply component quality at all and had to replace the black power box which failed in short order. Made in china trash. And the barrel connectors they provide are cheap feeling shit though none has failed yet. It was really disappointing cause they build some pretty sweet pedals. Unfortunately their power supply isn't worthy of the other stuff they build.

Yeah the Walrus Audio Canvas isn't even made in the US either and it's assembled here.

Also a you can power a Voodoo Labs X 4 with a DC7 or an 8 even technically but it probably wouldn't make much sense. If I were in the market for new Id go either CIOKS or Voodoo Labs.

CIOKS is excellent quality made in Europe/Poland and Voodoo Labs is made in CA/USA. Can't go wrong with either IME and IMO. Personally just like CIOKS because it's fucking no noise added at all or little to no noise or the lowest noise I am comfortable with. It really is amazing and the filtering really filters out a bunch of garbage.

My plan was to go CIOKS if the Strymon unit shits the bed again. They seem to be the gold standard the past few years.
