Are Petrucci fanboys pushing up Mark IV prices?

I guess even a recession won't stop a fanboy from acquiring his heros gear. But i do find it extremely funny that the spike in prices coincides with the pics of Petrucci's stage gear that were released not too long ago, and his sporting MarkIV's on the last G3 tour. In all fairness, his tone on G3 smokes everyone else. I liked Gilbert's playing the best but not his tone.

I like JP and the Mark IV but when I think of JP his tone isnt all that to my ears anyways :D

Nope, his Mark IV tone today is way too scooped. I dunno why that tone would make anybody want to buy one. Back in the 90s however...

Last time I said that in JP forum, I got so much hate that it was funny :D

I still stand behind my statement: 90% of Mark IV owners are JP fanboys. Others appreciate Mark IV for what a great amp it is. Once JP changes to another Mesa gear, I SWEAR ebay is gonna flood with Mark IV's going for $1100.

I find it so funny when some kid tries to convince me that he owns EBMM JP signature and Mark IV just cause they are awesome gear and not cause JP uses them. Next thing, you see 3984348 clips from the same kid trying to play dt stuff
Dude I bought a MK4 years before I ever heard of DT. It was '91 when I bought it and I still have it. I don't even like JP or DT. :poke: :lame:
Yeah I shouldn't have pointed to you and say "LOOK AT ICEMAN HE HAS MARK IV CAUSE JP HAS IT"

Sorry my bad

No wonder I don't like it

I think lamb of God are just as, if not more responsible for driving the prices up

Direct quote from a thread on Petrucci forum:

"I'm trying to get the rhythm tone that JP has in "forsaken" but I totally hate the rhythm sound in "constant motion". It has way too much high end for me. Right now my tone is more like "the dark eternal night" which is way too gritty for me too. I also have more bass in my combo than my bass player... I like it but would it be better for the overall tone to give more space for the bass?"

This is all well and good, but it's as if you're making out fans of any other guitarist have never asked for settings to get similar tones. Wouldn't Vai fans be looking to dial in their XTC/Legacy to sound like Vai? Or EVH fans their plexi? Or Timmons fans their Lonestar/Stiletto? Or Hetfield fans their IIC+/Triaxis/VH4? Or whoever.

I see your point with this post, but the way you're making it is flawed, IMO.

Yeah, I dunno, I feel like a dik or sumthin, but arent/werent we all kinda fanboys at one time or another??? I remember going BATSHIT as a kid over the Boston tone, got all anal when trying variables to lock down Sykes' Whitesnake thing, and when I did all the homework and gear acquisiton an nailed the tones Ive been after over time, I'd get all stoked an excited, squealing like a little girl on fkn Prom nite!! My personal problems aside, I LOVE the tone I get from my rig, I think weve all done our research to hone into the sounds of the players we dig/emulate, so what actually constitutes a fanboy?..... and why is it so evil??

Well, I guess I'm guilty a bit of that even though I've wanted a Mark IV for 2 years and I got a brand new one before
Christmas.

Now, those price go up and down in phases but they'll eventually go back down IMHO.

I agree, it's not so evil

It's just that fanboy's can be REALLY annoying on internet forums sometimes, at least to me
