I’m looking for a vertical input JCM800 2203. Would need cash from your end on this."

For some odd reason this guy thinks his Marshall is somehow better than yours and would trade his for your exact same amp if you wouldn't mind ADDING cash to the deal! WTF is up?

Dude. Calm down. I believe you and I have talked about gear in the past- I’m not some random stranger trying to screw someone else over. not sure why you’re so worked up over this. I had an old 800 that I miss and this JMP doesn’t sound like it did. I’m not an expert on Marshall’s by any means but JMPs tend to go for more than 800s. That’s just the way it is. Please relax and remind yourself why you’re on this forum in the first place.

Well, he does offer a valid point... They're pretty much apples/apples in value. Plus, you're stating yours seems to sound less superior, yet worth more?

I don’t think I have it in me to explain this any further

The JMP’s typically sell for a bit more than the 800’s and often sell faster. Neither necessarily sounds superior to the other, just different. The JMP sounds warmer, more vintage, more growly, more complex, while the 800’s sound brighter with a faster, sharper attack. I prefer the JMP’s myself, but both can sound great. It’s annoying that a lot guys seem to say they’re the same amp. Before I actually tried a whole lotta both those models, I used to buy into them being the same and looked for 800’s instead since they were easier to find and cheaper and I thought I’d be getting the same amp. If I had known then what I know now it would’ve saved me some time and money. They may be the same on paper, but in reality they’re not the same sound

I agree, to a certain extent. They may have their variances in tone, but I don't see one necessarily worth more than the other. If anything, a hard rock/metal guy may find an 800 more desirable, IMO.

I agree, but for whatever reason the JMP’s tend to sell for more from what I’ve seen. My guess to why would be maybe because a lot of classic rock guys seem to also love the JMP’s (like Johan Segeborn), so maybe it has a wider appeal. I would also just intuitively think the richer, more vintage sounding amp (jmp) would be more desirable to most, but I get the appeal of the 800 being a bit more metal voiced. Both can be worth having IMO

JMPs do go for more; just a fact. Whether or not they are better sounding just depends on the amp and the listener. The earlier the JMP; the more vintage the tone can be due to lower plate voltages and more use of mustard caps. IMO. But, a 1980 JMP 2203 can be nearly identical to a first year 1981 JCM 800 2203 due to the same exact components used.
Marshall started using higher voltage transformers though early in the 800 line; leading to a more aggressive sounding amp than most JMPs. In general. I have owned some fierce sounding JMPs however.

I can concur with these findings with empirical data. I did voltage profiles on my JMP and JCM800 both 50 watters.

The 1972 JMP 50 watter, the B+ voltage was 399DCV. On the 1984 JMC800 2204 the B+ voltage was 450DCV. Both amps were tested at exactly 120VAC. I know my 1979 2203 had a B+ of 454DCV. So if the JCM800 were roughly 50 DCV more then the B+ would be close to 500DCV on a JCM800 2203, 1959 amps.

Funny enough when you variac a 500DCV plexi down to 90ACV you get about 400DCV of B+ plate voltage.

Both of my '72 Super Lead 100's were appoximately 520VDC.

I think the OP was posting about my 72' metal panel that cost me $$$ the old shit plain kills. Never will the parts found in vintage gear be made the same way again. If anyone thinks that they can pay prices like back in the day better wake up, those days are gone. You and your funny tinfoil hat can wait forever for the old days to return.

I encourage all the dreamers to search Ebay and Reverb for Marshall plexi...what you'll find is the jump from a SLP or 1959 HANDWIRED to a vintage will go from $2799 to $4300 plus shipping and the amp isn't even close to the amp I posted in the classifieds. Sorry to break it to you but this is the market now. If you are like me and want what new amps cannot deliver this is your reality. Personally I don't ever want to buy a new amp ever again bc nothing can touch the transformers, mustard caps ect. That is where the tone comes from. The finest designs still fall short using new parts from you guessed it, china...

Those early metal panel NMVs are different beasts than the 76-80 2204/2203s...the MV Marshalls seemed a bit softer/saggier but with a vintage flavor. I had a 73 PTP 1959 that also had over 500v on the plates. My 82 2204 has 504v. My 83 2203 has 511. Beasts.
