Used gear for the price of new gear

Yeah, lowballers are the ultimate timewasters.
Selling a used compressor (the machine version, with pressure and oil and shit),
new $400, asking $150 and some loser sends a $25 offer.
What.the.fuck.do.you.expect.you.cheap.ass.fucking.fuck?!

I just listed a few things but I waited a long time to start because of the hassle. It’s not too bad but have received a few low ball offers, but all from Craigslist. It’s easy enough to check the most recent sold prices on Reverb to get what the current market is going for.

Nobody's buying shit anyway. Might as well roll the dice.

Oh fuck, I just bought a Boogie Quad pre-amp & 50/50 power amp, no low balling either. $900.00 for both. I did think about it first, and went out and tried a bunch of amps first, passed on a lot of good deals, but the Quad is a bucket list item. If I'm going to die, I'll die with a smile.

There was a guy on my local CL selling a Mark V for $1450 in good shape. Seemed like a decent enough deal so I emailed asking for more specifics. He failed to write in the description that it's missing the footswitch, which as we know is an important accessory for the Mark V. I said those go for $180, so if he'd take that off his asking then I'd buy it.

He said no way, and when I politely responded "sounds good, my offer stands if you ever decide to change your mind" he said "I won't". Haha, alright man, good luck with your fuckin sale. Last I checked he had raised the price to $1750, and still didn't list the missing footswitch in his description. Fucking amateurs.

I've seen people create "Alert" postings to point out shit like that and if someone types in 'amp' or 'Mark' or 'Mesa', etc they will the Alert post.

Lowball offers can be insulting but that’s life in reality. If you don’t want them it’s pretty simple, list your price as firm and expect to sit on it. Everybody wants to feel like they got a deal in the end.

Most people aren't serious about selling. They list for a dream price and play their gear until somebody has to have it. It is all long time test market. The ones selling used for basically new are just the gear whores who buy and try and wish to do so without consequence. Funny how people complain about low ballers because as buyers those same people never want to pay over ask. When you are buying you are a ow baller. When you are selling you hate low ballers...lol. Define low ball anyway, it is a different main to each person.

False. I bought my Sig:X used for about $1100, which I recon'd was a fair price for a used 100W head, and my initial offer was accepted without haggling, ergo: me not lowballing.
When I sold it for $850, there were so few takers and most folks thought they could come pick it up for $500-600. No fucking way. And I *still* took a big hit for something that sat in a clean studio, without hauling it around.
Currently the market for 100W full size heads has imploded here. Expect to receive less than $800 for an Engl Invader here (one of the reasons I'm not selling mine, which I bought brand-new in a store). My Engl SE was sold for chump change, compared to its new price and it took a long while to find a suitable buyer, who put in a low-ish, but reasonable offer, thus showing more of a willingness to actually negotiate than a guy wanting Ferrari's at Ford Pinto prices.

Maybe some desireable early 80's JCM800's or a Mesa Mark II/III series or a mint Plexi can catch some coin, but Mark IV's ain't moving at $1300-1500 ask. I've seen the same seller trying to get rid of his for many years now.

My experience with either me selling or friends selling amps 40W and above is the same. They for the most part just sit and the market is small. Yet on the lunchbox amp threads I saw a few posts saying that big iron amps were making a comeback. Sure not seen that yet. Small amps are still selling much more quickly in my experience and from reports from my local shop.

In this day and age it seems to be the big question with how much of a compromise are you willing to accept. Some have to have a big iron amp, others a smaller amp works great, others are fine with a tube preamp into a SS power, others are good with a helix/kemper/axe fx. And yet still others have all or most of these in their stable and use them as they see fit.

Yea lowballers don't really bother me, I expect it. What gets me is when they get mad because you don't accept the low ball offer.
You know when you get the " I've seen lots of these for (what ever his low ball is) you will never sell it for this" so my response is "go buy one that you saw for that price" his response is usually " yea well F&$k off "

Yea 100w heads aren't easy to sell to amateurs. They are under the mistaken impression that a 30w head isn't loud

And not easy to sell to pro's either. Most of them around here that do a lot of gigging, have switcheds to something smaller or Kemper/Axe-FX.

Pro's don't need them anymore and amateurs won't appreciate the value. Lose-lose situation when you're selling.
