Are real amps on stage becoming a thing of the past?

Reading everyone's posts, im kind of in the middle.i guess.i have a fairly heavy solid state combo but not modelling, sending anyolthibg consistently to FOH, etc.

Weight is a big part for me but so is reliability. Who knows, I might end up with a monitor and solid state power amp again.

Some of you mentioned 4x12s. I'd love to have that again but at 55 and two hernia surgeries later, I just can't.

Tell me about it. I had a neck fusion two years ago and the Doc has me lifting no more than 50 pounds, max. If I was to ever jam with someone or entertain doing a band, not sure what I would do. I’ve been a half stack guy since 1990. I guess I would have to go the route of a 2x12 with Neo-Dym speakers.

Not sure how things are going in the USA, but here in Italy tube amps are going as strong as ever. There's still a relevant usage of modelers, but much less than a couple of years ago, and it's mostly due to short on money players who seek good tones (which aren't as easy to find under 800-1000€ here) and versatility. Most local bands got back with tube amps, apparently.
99% of the bands I see here in the USA are still using amps, from pub acts to major label.

I go to 3-4 shows ranging from small time metal/hardcore to large scale concerts of varying genres every single week, and see amps most of the time. The modelers and such are more common with larger acts, but even then, most are still using amps.
