Something that WAS sped up in the studio were the double bass tracks in War Ensemble. Dave Lombardo admitted it in Metal Maniacs magazine in 93 or so. The story went that Rick Rubin insisted that Dave raise his drum stool during the SOH tour so people could see him better behind his massive kit. That screwed up Dave's double bass work for a time until after the Seasons record was done. He eventually got it back and became an even better drummer but yes, they had to cheat on that particular track. Also heard rumors that Dyers Eve from Metallica was recorded that way as well.
