Are these the right BKPs?

I know I don't like the custom wound pickups that Seymour Duncan made for Jarrett guitars because I've already pulled two sets of Jarrettbuckers out of the other two that I have. Now that I have this one, I need to put good pickups in it. Given it's shape, mahogany body, and figured Myrtle top, let's just call it a "Les Paul".

I have a JB/59 in the other ones, and I like them. I want to put Bare Knuckle pickups in this one, mostly because they make good stuff, but partially for the aesthetic of a custom order. What would be the right set? The Holy Divers? Aftermath?

What Pickups would complement the guitar soundwise in your opinion?

I've never tried the Holy Divers, but my research would suggest those. I had the Aftermaths in a basswood 7 string, and they were pretty good, but I want more rock than metal. I'm leaning towards the Holy Divers.

Really depends on what you like, but for that guitar, I’d do Painkiller or Silo. Those are my 2 favorites. Painkillers have a good bite to them that pairs well with Mahogany. I have them in a couple guitars and just love the body and sizzle it gives.

I have Silo’s in a couple of PRS guitars mahogany. They sound really good from chug, to solos, clean, everything. Chords are full and clear. I really love these. They’re even sounding, not too much treble or too bassy, just kind of do anything good.

I have tried Holy Divers twice before. I think they are more like a PAF more than anything. They were good but I think you can get that sound from a cheaper set of Dimarzio, and Dimarzio does custom orders off their web site if you want something custom to you. Or Seymour Duncan.

I didn't consider Dimarzio. I have a set of Breeds in my V and like them. I like the hot PAF sound and it suits what I'm doing. I'm playing sludge and post-metal mostly, so I want a mid heavy rock tone more than super high output.

Maybe the Rebel Yells? It's a hot PAF, I've got a set in an LPC and they're just perfect for me in that guitar, especially for heavy rock. The C-Bomb is good, too, a little more on the metal side IMO. Holy Diver is definitely more mid-focused, I find it a little dark sometimes.

I always recommend Planet Tone pickups, as they can make/build a pickup to suit your tastes - like swapping magnets, etc. I have no idea if they can do the same level of custom graphics and covers as BKP, I have not asked.

I am replacing a set of Silos that were in my custom guitar with a set from Planet Tone currently funnily enough. Too much A5 happening for me - scooped sounding with a bit of a thin top end and big bottom.

I am trying out their Road Pro IV set with a set of black covers with gold polepieces and will post a thread on here once installed and tested.

The Holy Diver set, and the Rebel Yell set are both loosely based on the Duncan JB. I have had both sets in a Les Paul. Things they have in common- the BKP clarity and note separation. How they differ- The Holy Diver has a smoother top end compared to the Rebel Yell. The Rebel Yell has the mid-range emphasis in the upper mids, while the Holy Diver has them shifted down slightly. The Rebel Yell is around 14.5k and the Holy Diver is somewhere around 16k in output. So, neither of them is in PAF land. Though they don't feel like they are crushing the front end of the amp. Just hitting it with a good push.

I like the Rebel Yell in a darker guitar and the Holy Diver in a brighter guitar.

That helps a ton. I'm still leaning towards the Holy Diver. The guitar isn't really bright; the myrtle top is more mid focused, mainly in the upper mid. We tune down to C though, so the lower mid focus of the Holy Diver might be the correct route.
