I think that is a pretty swell question. I think you are looking at the future as fixed and unchangeable. Make a plan. Sometimes you are forced to alter that plan to accommodate circumstances that come up suddenly. Do you throw your hands up and say "welp, can't do anything about that since it's already planned". No, there are considerations to take into account. I do think prayers are received as considerations of a sort.
I saved a clip a while back that I wish I could find, but it was a guy talking about science and prayer in relation someone having a medical procedure.
He spoke about how it’s perfectly reasonable to “believe” in the benefits of both. You can understand the science behind the medicine and procedures, but also pray that the doctor or surgeon got a good night’s sleep, paid attention in class when they were covering this procedure, makes the right decisions at the right time etc.
