Atmospheric Effects...

Anyone have any suggestions on how to craft some atmospheric effects? I am after a dark sound to be used as something like an interlude between songs. Any help or suggestion will be appreciated! thanks!

Reverse gated reverb with a REALLY BIG Hall room size and delay, perhaps some low -1 octave pitch and bow that sucker in, and use your tremolo bar so the strings are flubby (trem depressed, and as you start to slowly raise the trem, bow in the volume) and it sounds like Godzilla breathing.

Yeah, I have seen that before, I love the part where he's like "this button sets off landmines under the stage, blow up up people"

I like Fuzz and delay for that. Interesting tones/ textures. Not all fuzzes work well for this.

Seems as though Reverb and delay are the key ingredients...I kinda felt like a moron asking this question cuz I've been playing for about ten years now. Anyway, I guess when you hit a mental wall, input from others helps!

I've got my T.C. G Major on the task now...I really like the idea that zachman posted. Problem is, the G doesn't have a reverse reverb on it. I also have an RP7 from digitech, but same problem. Not to mention I don't have a trem on any of my guitars. I guess I'm SOL with that one.

I wish there was an FX unit that had similar functions to a sampler; e.g. oscillators, LFO's, and things of that nature. I've been able to craft some really interesting sounds in Reason. I know I could get a guitar-to-MIDI translator and actually use a synth, but I kinda feel like that's almost cheating, not to mention I don't have that kind of cash. SOoo, just trying to work with what I have here. I've played around and got some pretty nice sounding presets. I don't remember what all I've got going on though. My rigs at the studio. when I get a chance, I'll write it down and post them. Alway looking for suggestions though! Thanks!

Fractal Audio Axe-FX Ultra has all the goodies and there's Eventide, BUT... I used to do the thing I mentioned with an old Yamaha SPX90. Or you could use an ebow and a slide, with tremolo and a volume pedal to do some weird stuff.

SPX90 does have Reverse GATE, which is what I meant to say, before the caffeine kicked in, and a bunch of other VERY cool things. I recommend the SPX90II, as it has longer delay times. It's been a long time for me too, but I did have them BOTH for a pretty long time.

The E-bow is a hand held electro magnet that you hold in your right hand, suspended over the strings and it will keep your strings resonating indefinately.

A not bad inexpensive atmosphere device is the Boss RV-3 Reverb/Delay. The reverbs on this thing are NOT subtle, to say the least.

I might have to look into that. I've cranked the reverb on my G Major and with all the other effects running, it overloads that DSP processor and the Reverb poops out. Kinda a bummer. I'm thinking the way to go is an external reverb pedal. i like the delay in the G Major though.
