You can make the powered ones non-powered with a switch and you can plug in an ext amp to he wedge as well.
Like Steve says they also sell a completely passive version as well.
Dayum... that was sick. Mark, you have to stop making these videos. You are going to end up costing me a lot of money and eating all my words on tube snobbery.
Those things still look as ugly as they did when I had one for my Pod and Tonelab years ago. Why a power tube design if the Axe-Fx is supposed to already be real tube tone? Just curious as to why they went in that direction rather than SS?
I think you kinda answered your own question ( ie; POD & Tonelab ). But you might want to put it directly to Tom King ( Atomic/Fractal ).
If my memory serves .... It goes back to before the Axe-Fx was developed and Tom developed the tube amp to best fit the moddelers of the day ( Line 6 / Vox, etal; ). By the time Fractal came to market, he already had the design dialed in and there was just no reason to change ( ie; why spend the extra $$$'s for more R & D etc; ) ....
I'm not 100% on that, but it's my take on the situation.
I wasn't able to crank it today with the Art SLA2. My efffin MacBook Pro died today which caused a major hiccup in my work schedule.
I'll try tomorrow after visting the Mac Store.
