AX-8 price announced

It'll run direct live but not record direct, from what I'm hearing....taken direct from the FAS forum.

The price is amazing

The one downside it the recording out
A lot of people have their own interface so no biggie
But if you have to buy one that's something to consider
It's SPIDIF only and you won't find that on the <200 interfaces
So you will be in for about 1650 if you want to record

Just go left/right speaker cable out into any decent $100 audio interface into your DAW.

does the ax8 do 4 cm?
Per Cliff, it does not do it as well as the FX8. The AX8 doesn't ever seem to have been intended as an effects processor. He did the two things people have been asking for for years. Some wanted JUST the effects from the Axe, and others wanted a paired down, floor based one. I think he nailed it. People really seem to dislike the guy. I have no dog in that fight as he and I have literally never interacted. I am really interested in these units.

The op-amps used are very expensive and there's dozens of them just to support the 4CM stuff. Add to that relays for true bypass, metal film capacitors, etc., etc., and you end up with an expensive design".

The long & short is that both can do 4CM, but the FX8 is optimized for that & can channel switch your amp. It has effects only & no amp models for$1349.

The AX8 has all the AxeFx2's amp models(200+) & 95% of the effects for $1399, and as long as it sounds good enough for you at 4CM with your tube amp, then it could be the better buy because of the included amp models. Who knows :D

I want a single space rack unit with just effects, no 4cm, sub $1000. Basically a g force but with the FAS technology of today. If he can do the fx8 at 1350, he can do this at $1000, but I don't imagine there's a large enough market to warrant him wanting to do it…. too bad for me.

For recording, there's also a S/PDIF out.

I would dig a AX8 XL with the same 4cm and amp switching as the fx8. Im not ready to give up on my tube amps...

CHeaper than the Helix and who in their right mind would pick Line6.

I had a chance to hear the Helix in person when the rep brought it in and it sounds amazing. The ease of adjusting on the fly is amazing. I've owned 3 Kemper units in the past and a Pod HDProX to compare. Kemper is a great unit.

Things are a bit different this time. I can live with this thing easily going through the right FRFR setup. The Fractal stuff is great as well. I'm not interested in owning it though after trying a friend's AxeFXII. Solid product, no question...just not for me.

I'll have to hear the Helix to believe it. I still have "that" typical Line 6 tone stuck in my head.

Here's that Line 6 tone. As we know any have recorded albums with it like this, but I can't deal with that plastic tone.Go to 1:04

Yup.....^that is what I hear when I play a Line6 product. There's a dude on TGP who's been throwing up vids of the Helix...lot of it sounds good, but he chucked up a metal tone the other day and I heard THAT TONE in it. It's better than it ever has been but it's still there...

I assume you mean the fizzy, scratchy upper mids type thing going on in the sound?

Someone posted a Helix clip with its Bogner Shiva Sim on TGP. It was better than what I've come to expect from the HD500 but overall the clip didn't sound that good to me. Of course most of the clips over there are clean tones and everyone is doing backflips. Where's the jack me off smiley?

Typical rig talk snob comment. That clip was excellent. Close your eyes you would not know if it was real or not. You snob talkers are anti-line6 so no matter what they do its not good enough. However you will all suck off the Marshall rip off wanna be Amps out there.

Go figure.

Don't like it here then don't come here. Did I hurt your feelings or are you sucked into the typical hype from the latest modeler that will be littered all over Ebay a year from now at half the price? Line 6 has yet to prove to me that can compete with Kemper or Fractal.

I'll give it that it's a new piece and there will plenty of crappy clips and I already said that it's surpassing the HD500 already. I'm taking a wait and see approach when stacked up against big boys. And I don't own a modded Marshall.

And yes, this clip to me is...ok. I've owned the Shiva and they sound much better than this.

Clips like this from the Kemper are one another level that the Helix will have to show that it can produce. It hasn't yet to me.

Some decent tones are being posted from the Helix & it's only been in some buyers hands for a few days.

Once guys start to really get to know it & start to load 3rd party IRs, we'll hear the real potential.

The Helix is good looking & well designed with an easy user interface & tons of options: huge LCD screen/scribble strips/8x8 USB audio/re-amping/IR loading/4cable method/channel switching etc.....etc........this thing will be very popular, especially if tones are close enough....

Here's another clip:

Guess it's still fun to hate on L6.

I have an Axe2. I'd sure love to have a Helix too...
