Well I got the Axe-FX Standard in yesterday, still not sure which update it has, haven't got too deep into it yet. played around with the presets, meh.... start a new one, o.k. so played around a little bit, not really trying to get too involved in the programming, so it's basically a couple presets with drive block, amp, cab/mic, gate, and Geq.... WOW! pretty impressive so far, NAILED a Deftones tone (unintentionally), and got an aproximate L.O.G. tone, not exact but somewhat close.

So far it's pretty cool, like some of the guys told me, I'd be underwhelmed with it, I am, a little more impressed than I thought I would be, gonna play with it some more today. I'm using it into a crappy Behringer mixer and into my Tannoy Monitors. Today I'll try it through my Carvin DCM1000 and Randall XXL cab to see whaat I come up with. so far, so good.

Only time will tell, the thing has got ALOT too it, but so far so good. It will be fun to see what I can come up with. The only bad thing is I dont have a MIDI connection for my computer yet, so no updates or patch downloads, but I have plenty of learning to do.

Something else I noticed with it last night.... I feel like I'm cheating. on the "Deftones" sounding preset, I noticed something, I thought about some of the detractors saying it sounds too processed, I dont think processed is the right term, too me it sounds "produced" almost too perfect. I ran the same amp settings/drive block etc... only changing the cab and mic sims, and panning hard left/right. sounded too perfect. I'm one of those guys who insists on doubling my own tracks no matter how many passes it takes, so now, I'll have to make another patch, with just a single ended version of it, so I can "correctly" record with that patch.  not a bad thing, not at all, just an observation on HOW MUCH can be done with this.

Cool fucking unit for sure. I got homework.

and yes, I'll try to record a couple quick clips sometime this weekend. :D

Pretty much what I expected to hear.

I told ya you would be underwhelmed when you first try it...I know I was ;)

Once you figure it out, this box is incredible.

Running it through a power amp (tube or ss) and cab takes away some of that "produced" sound....sounds and feels just like an amp running through a cab to me....but it did take me a while to ge there.

I can't reccomend enough to get a midi adapter to download the latest firmware...5.22...if it isn't loaded already. The warmth paramater is awesome!

I also still suggest finding an amp model you think sounds pretty good and learning the nuances of that model. Just like you would if you were tweaking a new amp, it takes time to learn each model.

Yea, I'm figuring that out, I cant for the life of me get a usable tone out of the Euro1, Euro2 amps..... YET. But I found that the British Pre is cool for that Deftones (Modded Marshall) vibe, and I think the othe preset I did was an SLO, and "Metal" together.

I fully plan on taking sometime with this, so far, I'm impressed but not blown away, I'm sure with time and patience, I'll get there though ;)

How do I tell which update I have?

Hit the utilities button and page to the right until you get to the firmware screen. BTW, this is the same screen you need to be on when you update firmware (fairly easy).

cool, thanks....

I'm gonna play with it some more today..... MAYBE, try to record a couple clips, maybe. :D

what sims did you use to stumble upon the deftones & log (in a nutshell)?

Deftones - Slo - Recto cab sm57/Metal - British 20watt - E609
L.O.G. - Recto 2 with Geq (W shape) - Recto cab sm57
