Axe FX highgain amps shootout - NEW CLIPS ADDED

I too think that the clips sound very similar – to my ears, a good EQ before and after a real tube preamp could get the same results. Perhaps these clips would be easier to tell apart with a real power amp... It does sound "direct" this way, like a distorted radio rather than open and big like a tube amp on full. Nevertheless I think it's cool you did this comparison and shared it.

How clips has Ed made comparing/showing different amps sounding the same? If you dial something in using the rest of the same gear (real or digital) its understandable that you CAN make different amps sound alike.

Sounds like the comparison someone did of the MTS modular stuff...a lot of it sounds very similar but that's down to same player, same tone preference, recording setup etc.

If you look at the amps...5150, Soldano, Recto...they should be pretty close anyway right?

I like the Soldano one best I think but again they sound very similar..especially when you hit the lead lines.

The biggest thing I like about this is that is was probably silent while recoding right...major advantage IMO

After bringing these clips to the Columbia University Audio Science Research Facility today, we came up with some conclusions.
The Axe FX has 5 full time gremlins whereas tube amp only have 2. But the 4 out of 5 in the Axe FX continually masturbate to turtle porn. The 2 in the real tube amps like hot young bi sexual porn involving one male and many females.
So you can see where the goods really are.

THANKS

First thanks for all the feedback, it really helps me tweaking better - this unit has such endless tones, many bad ones, many good ones!

Some people were saying that it's not right, mids bad, too plastic etc.

Sooo, I reworked 2 patches, different cabs, different settings, and would like to again invite for some feedback, good bad or destructive, I am happy about ANY remarks.

Definately not my cup of tea, and I'm a metalhead, I'm sure you can get much better tones out of the axe-fx, just my opinion  . I would record them again without the boost. You won't like the feel as much, but maybe when you hear them the following day you may be surprised.

IMHO you only need to boost when it's really necessary, not as a rule.

Good point with the boost. That surely is an element that makes it kinda more artificial, but I thought that was good for the brootals :aww:

Ok, here is an example WITHOUT any boost, the amp is quite heavily tweaked in the advanced options to tame the low end. The result is somewhat a lack of lowend, but that might actually just what it needs. So what about this one in comparison?

New approach Uebershall:

What mic sim were you using?

Cab 1: 4x12 Recto1 with D112
Cab 2: 4x12 V30 with R121
D112? ..... bass drum mike? why would they put that in there for guitar?
