Now I wanted to really know it, you may officially call me insane ... or boring
Luckily recording direct is quick, so this whole thing was done in 20 minutes apart from dialing in the sounds before 8-)

Soo I dialed in some similar patches here,
-all using the same cab model and
-all boosted by a tube screamer model, gain=0, tone=10, volume=10,
-similar gain, EQ and other settings,
-slight playing differences cannot be avoided as I didn't reamp them.

After recording I normalised all guitars and put a slight limiter/comp on the master.

Here we go (PRS McCarty used):
1. Peavey 5150:

2. Bogner Ueberschall:

3. Custom Audio CAE3:

4. Diezel VH4:

5. Engl Powerball:

6. Fryette/VHT Deliverance:

7. Recto New:

8. Recto Orange:

9. Soldano SLO100:

EDIT:

First thanks for all the feedback, it really helps me tweaking better - this unit has such endless tones, many bad ones, many good ones!

Some people were saying that it's not right, mids bad, too plastic etc.

Sooo, I reworked 2 patches, different cabs, different settings, and would like to again invite for some feedback, good bad or destructive, I am happy about ANY remarks.

Reworked SLO:

Reworked 5150:

New approach Uebershall:

Awesome! I can't wait to check this out when I get home

Very cool! I would rate them like this:

- SLO

- Recto
- Uber
- VH4
- Powerball
- 5150
- CAE3

- VHT

I LOVED the SLO...and I didn't like the VHT at all. The rest sat somewhere in the middle for me..

Great job man!

:rawk:

It all sounds like small variations of the same tone to me, to be honest.

Same to me. The Recto seemed to have the biggest change but still very similar. I actually liked something about the VHT better than the rest.

I'm not hearing a lot of differences in the tone, but using the same cab/speakers will of course contribute to that. I want to record something like this too when I get to recording again.

My ears must be getting better with time because I can hear pretty significant differences in each clip

I'm listening through about $3 ear buds.

Wow.... Those sound so... Similar! Atleast on my laptop :D

I'll have to check these out with some better speakers/headphones.

Again, this is not helping my GAS

Me too, and they really have no resemblance to the real amps, especially the VHT and CAE

Yeah well, they are also deliberately tweaked to sound similar, but there are still major differences if you listen on a proper monitor.

Maybe the differences would be more perceivable without the boost in front. Sounds cool either way. Thanks for the clips.

I'm listening on proper monitors that I use in a video production suite, very flat (like me), maybe some very slight differences but they all have the same basic modeler plastic tone. Your other clips sound much better through your poweramp and cab.

Hmm, that's a bit generalising, but to be fair, I am not so good at dialing in the brootalz, this is all rather new to me.

Compared, here is a more classic tone, also recorded Axe direct.

Would you say that sounds plastic, too?

OMG! This is just what i was looking for! U rock! Can you do maybe a clean amp shootout, and maybe some effects? IM getting an Axe Ultra soon!

I listen to these later today and tell you which ones got my vote!

I just got done doing something similiar in the garage with one of my cabs and a VHT 2:90:2.
The VHT amp sim was rocking hard!

Which reinforces my own findings...and its all likely the result of something most all AxeFx users do (myself included) - set up the amps sims to their sound, the same way we set up regular amps. We all know what we like to hear and will inevitably set them up that way. Everything started sounding the same to me after awhile. I would also get raging headaches after playing with it for any length of time - serious ear fatigue. Next time around its for effects only.

I'm listening with some cheap studio monitors and I'm having a hard time seeing a big difference between them as well. They're all "kinda" different, but as others have said, I also think the TS in front is homogenizing them a bit.
