The Pod is great and all BUT... would I use it for pro recording? No...

Pro recording with the Axe Fx 2? Definitely...
How would you compare the Ultra/Standard with the Axe II?

To be honest at first I didn't find the difference between them worth the upgrade. Sure it has all the extras and stuff but in the higain apartment I could've lived with the standard I had. But with the updates that has been coming out the unit has just gotten better and better. Today I would definitely do the upgrade.
Still think the ultra and standard are awesome!

It is also funny to hear RTalkers saying they would buy the POD because of the price difference yet many of you (myself included) pay considerably more for your amp of choice when there are cheaper alternatives that get you in the ball park. Ie Soldano vs. Peavey or even a Marshall with a pedal vs. a Cameron or a Wizard. YMMV.

Let alone comments on Psychodave's clips of a HT5 that said they didn't sound that far off of his clips of his Cameron.

You didn't hear shit about price difference then. Irony can be so ironic.

I have the Axe II but still want the HD500 and the new DT25 combo amp. The HD500 will adjust the DT25 or DT50 automatically to adjust for the amps setup or you can over ride that feature. Sends the signal through a real tube amp and warms the signal with the pre amp tubes. For the cost it is a great set up. If Fractual had an amp that would change like that with the amp presets it would be cool. Besides its the only amp that I know of with class A A/B Pentode and diode settings and hell its designed by Bogner. :D That said Im still keeping my Axe II

I'd gladly pay more for an amp than I would for a modeler and I think most others would as well especially when the digital unit gets upgraded and the obsolete unit becomes scrap heap fodder. The Ultra is dropping in price and I've some for less than $1500, and they're only going to get cheaper. When the Axe 3 comes out with another level of realism, I expect another wave of angry Axe 2 owners to come out crying because their toy got 1-upped.

I agree that the Fractal crowd seems to be a whiney bunch and that modelers have an issue in that they're relatively obsolete after 5 years or so. That said, assuming that you're running the modeler through a SS power amp, the cost of replacement tubes over the years with a real amp might bring the costs closer together than resale values alone would indicate.

I do find it more than a little amusing that some are saying the FAS Axe II is "a thousands times better" or "it's not even close". Okay, golden ears. It's a Youtube video.

It isn't really close. Doesn't mean I have "Golden Ears". Been around enough great amps and amp builders to watch and learn, and listen, to what the differences are. They spend hours changing cap values and moving things around because it makes a difference. People here change pot values on guitars, pickups, even pics, Wood choice, fretboard choice, fret material, bridge material, cable, cords, tubes, strings, speakers, cabs, pedals, amps, change mics, mic positions etc. because of the differences. If you can't hear it try a nice set of head phones or better monitors. Push play, turn your back on the screen and I'm pretty sure you will hear the difference - and it's not subtle. It doesn't matter that it's a You Tube Video. All that means is it isn't as good a playback as it would be if you were there. The difference still comes through.

If you were recording a band, and all the instruments, vocals, were like the Line 6 in this video you would really hear how dead and compressed it is. Mush to my ears, and they aren't golden.

i listened to the vid before i watched it and knew which was which. i thought the pod sounded better, i actualy thought that the pod was the axe fx when i was listening.

i still think that axe fx is a bunch of hype

On the first vid, I sense the same thing with the POD HD as with all prior PODs, lack of dynamics.
