Not sure if it's the mic but that tone sounds too scooped for me. And I'm not sure if it's amp versus Ax, but to me a clip like this that Dave did sounds a lot more "real" to me. All just my opinion.

that does sound killer

Marshall = 1 channel maybe 2 usually a boost
1 EQ for everything
plus: 80's hard rock sounds nails it!

Axe Fx = limitless options
midi switching BOOM "Pinkfloyd" "AC/DC" "Lynch" "Halen" "Metallica" "Pantera" "Carcass" "the Faceless" "Meshuggha"
all the switch of one midi pedal  :worship:

plus: I can play and record all night silent. the wife will be happy with that!

Don't get me wrong I love my plexi 69' and my JCM800 :inlove: . I'm waiting on Fortin to get the HULK mod in April hopefully

Thats a huge reason why i love the Axe, My band has a sound that has different eq's and delay times for different parts, and i have 9 different presets and its not a experimental song by any means but i need a super versatile setup and the axe-fx gives me that! Damn being on this forum makes me want to try a VHT PA so bad...1500$..

axe haters club?

the ordeal with the axe fx is that its sole existance and limits are that of human design and programming abilities, and is why i will never own one. it is on version 9.02 now?

tubes are tubes, they have parameters in themselves that need to be followed, but if you miscalculate a design you literally ruin the amplifier or the tubes.

does the axe ruin itself if a parameter is set incorrectly?

you cant copy the harmonic content and basic electron theory of a tube transistor with solid state algorithms, no matter how close you may get - the imperfections that make tubes - tubes - is why (i think) the tube tone is still sonically the best.

the marshall clip was proof that ed just posted :D

the one thing that the axe has is versatility for those who dont want $100,000 worth of versatility and the back breaking experience to carry it all. its still not my cup of tea - but id say the best grab and go practice unit. i just hate tweaking.

Maybe you can talk to "Samhill" he might be able to help with the settings for the ART.

yeah the VHT is the shit as far as I heard with the Axe FX.

Im very content where i am with the art, I think just trying out a VHT will either tell me "Heres the new level with Axe" Or just stick with the art either way im very happy with my setup.

I think its human error. Alot of people are set in there ways when it comes to change. I feel the same way to a certain point. I love tube amps!! and I'm lucky enough to have a nice collection. But I also embrace new technology.

If you hate tweaking knobs. Well sure your going to hate the Axe Fx bottom line. If you want to plugin and play, don't get an Axe Fx. Same applys to recording music.

I have a studio w/ Protools and Waves Mercury with all the plugins and the whole 9 digital yards.

I heard the same stuff when everyone was switching from analog to digital. oh it isn't as good as analog. "Analog is warmer sounding". but guess what the industry is digital.

Technology is advancing every year and like I said tubes use to be in Radio's and TV's   :D

The Axe Fx will never replace a tube amp now but give them 10yrs and we will talk again fellow Earthlings   :jedi: :force:

theres digital, and analog.

one will never take over the other. there will always be preferences, and right now the axe fx is just a glorified effects unit in my books - the modeling is not there yet.

but in 10 years you can also expect to see all plasma and LCD and LED tv's to become the equivalent to the clunky CRT TV's - with the arrival of 3D television over the horizon. technology will never stop evolving - but some things will never dissappear.

thats why there are still tubed mics, tubed mic pre's, analog recording boards and recording pro's who still like the tone of them, LCD's will never go away, and other technology that has an advantageous use and user preference crowd wont disappear either.

10 years i doubt the processors will get much quicker and faster too.... as the programs get more and more complex, so will the price and patch sizes. ive taken alot of studying into both digital and analog routes in hopes to grab my mind around the digital processing. from what i can tell right now - processors wont get much quicker unless we find a clock that is as high frequency and as stable as a quartz crystal or ceramic equivalent. and as of today - that still has never changed.

its also why you wont see wireless units getting any better anytime soon. its all outdated 1950's based and FCC controlled, and tubes date back to as early as 1926~.

in 10 years though... ill gladly line up a tubed amplifier designed by someone who knows the electronic theory and has a good ear versus anything modern. the music industry and broadcasting are the only real uses of tubes today because of raw power and headroom capabities and tonal preference choices for musicians.

theres digital, and analog. if what you do suites your needs for an axe-fx then go for it

Digital has already taken over.  Everything is digital.

Out of all our technology you named 2 things tube "Tube amps and tube mic/pres" Yes tube amps will never go away. I never said that.

Digital modelers keep getting better and better. Eventually they will caught up and sound just as good as a tube amp. Hell some people would choose a Axe Fx over an amp already. I'm not at that point yet, but when it comes I will definitley check it out.

As far as "tube tone" goes as soon as you run your digital processors threw your fx loop on your amp its digital. Might still have analog tone but digital will be mixed in as well. Or you get mic'd at a club into a digital board, your digital. Or you record with Pro Tools, digital. See your digital and don't even know it.

"You got digital in my analog" " You got analog in my digital"

Tube huggers embrace the Digital   :D

"Recording studio update:

Plug in Axe Fx's directly to some Apogee's (producer and engineer do massive amounts of famous metal), call up one of my Spitz presets on [the] Axe-Fx, play Thrash [name of new album], engineer looks at producer, producer looks at engineer, I stop and smile, they both fall back in their chairs and go "Best guitar tone I've ever heard, how the F*&%$ ???? WTF is in that thing?" I show them. Next day I find a print ad from some guitar mag for Axe-Fx on the desk and others coming in to "see the magic black box". Their going " look, it's one of those things". . . . .

LOL . . .

The entire CD is Axe-Fx. It is hourly blowing all their minds and mine. Leads double and triple with no phase cancellation at all. It's better than a real amp. I've cloned my JCM800's, MK3's and Deizels and other amps as well. ... What it does best for "Thrash" is two things:
Places the sound field more forward in space.
Places space and extreme clarity in the spaces between notes.

I'm doing ONLY two tracks of rhythms (left and right) and it sounds like I did my usual 4 per side piles. SICK! SICK ! . . .

You guys are going to freak when you hear DeuxMonkey [Dan's new band].

Regards,
Dan"
