That's about the best comparison that could be done.

Real tits under 30 years old...wonderful....after that it's usually hit or miss!
Yeah, but you can put a new set of tubes and perhaps some capacitors in an over 30 amp and it's just like they're twenty again...maybe even better. :)

I wonder if NOS implants would feel more natural? Hey it works for tubes :D

I bet they would...older is better no matter what the topic....cars, amps,

Here's an Ax gas killer comparison. :checkthisout:

Ok trainwreck amp $50k
Gibson Les paul real 1959 $100K to $300k
so pretty much $150k to $350k WOW all that for some "chickin pickin /blues tones" turn the volume down on the les paul for a clean tone.
Yeah it sounds good but not no $350K good

Axe Fx $2000 brand new

If anything that fuels the GAS more for an AXE FX     :D

I don't know how anyone in the right mind would spend $350k on 1 guitar and amp. I mean if you got the money like that more power to ya.

Old boobs feel great but have a high failure rate. So be careful on the nibbling. :D

I'm sure Mark has posted this clip but here it is again, I think this sounds so incredible!!!!! It makes me want one of these things so bad!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NXunIvK ... re=related

Before you get too jacked up, give Hawkey a call first and ask him what he thought of mine in person - not recorded tones (where I think this box really shines)
If it doesn't say Bogner Matt dont like it!! Thats the way he is and he wont change until he buys his next amp!!!!

I might get the AXE FX one day... but being a VG99 owner and using all modeling, I decided to pick up the Renegade Head and got and empty Tourmaster 2X12 to load a Scumback H75 and a M75 in it.

I'll also going to re-tube the Renegade with a set of SED =C= EL34s and Svetlana 6550s. Then, I'll pic up a few analog pedals and perhaps a few good digitals like the Eventide Timefactor and Modfactor.

This (btw) is all in my studio. I guess (IMHO) having an all digital modeling device that sounds the same day in and day out is like using the same sample pianos, same sample vocal phrases, same sample drums over and over. For live and playing a lot of different music where you needed to change sounds and patches on the fly, the AXE is a plus. But for me, I guess I want something that isn't like everyone else.

Tube amps can vary from day to day, depending on the age of the tubes, electrical current, the temperature of the room, the humidity, mic placement, etc. Even the subtle difference when you change the eq where its like not exactly the same setting every time. I also like something that can be sculpted a bit different and make it "my own" so to speak with different vintage pedals, mics, speakers, etc.

However, I do like blending the best of both worlds. With that said, I also might try the VB-101 or the VM-202 by Two-Notes. That way I would still use my head and my tubes but their cab sims and mics.

I kind of do that last thing you mentioned live. Axe is wet L/R direct and my Cornford is pushing a 2x12 with Scumback M75's mic'd. Sometimes I run some verb on the Cornford and sometimes they both have different effects going(usually on big cleans) Smallest footprint and biggest sound Ive ever had. Our soundman loves the reduced guitar volume on stage and I love not hauling 3 4x12's and two heads like I used to:)

I have an Ultra and I dig it big time. Wont stop me from gassin over a Fortin (one day) but the Axe was the ONLY tool that allowed me to put my Mark iv on the shelf for a while... But now that I think about the tubes vs. transistors battle that has raged forever, what one single amp really DOES do EVERYTHING? and by that I mean EVERYthing, no slapping some tired 'vintage' class a w/ a bunch of pedals to compensate, or a high gain amp that has no real clean for my single coils, a tube amp thats got all the major amps in it? Marshall, Fender, Vox, Diezel, Boogie, etc,etc,etc.... Maybe if Id had more time w/ the Hulk i'd have a different outlook, but short of that amp in particular, I dont ever recall any ONE tube amp that really, really, really did it ALL... Any suggestions?
In the meantime for the versitility I'll stick w/ the Axe... Till somthing convinces me there's something better. An amps a musical tool, not something to get personally debate an pissed off over. NOW ALL OF YOU MUST BOW TO THE AXE!!!!!    I love reading posts where some guys hearts are in their gear like you insulted their football team or their Mama... :hys:

Haha. Some truth there, but keep in mind Matt has had that amp since 2000. same amp for 10 years.

"Recording studio update:

Plug in Axe Fx's directly to some Apogee's

Places the sound field more forward in space.
Places space and extreme clarity in the spaces between notes.

i'm pro axe (at the moment :D ) and if this box came with apogee grade conversion, it would destroy. it would also cost 4k more!

as far as the feel, hit the front end with a pedal for more juice.
the latest compressor upgrade makes running a pedal comp in front less appealing.

the bb preamp model is nice but putting a real bb preamp in front of the axe has a totally different and very cool response and effect due to what it's doing to the input sensitivity of the unit.

Ok forget the Trainwreck and insert Diezel instead. I am hearing a trend with the Axe-Fx. To me, it doesn't sound anything like the amps it's trying to emulate and i keep hearing others say that the different amp models don't sound that different from eachother. I'm not saying the Axe sounds bad and it is extremely tweakable but to say that it's got Boogie, Diezel, Bogner, Trainwreck, Marshall, etc, covered? I'm not hearing it.

But i will admit that it's got Line 6 and VOX beat by miles and it sounds more amplike than any other digital device soo far. And having effects built in is another big plus.

User error here again? Because this doesn't sound like a Diezel to me.
