Still up in the air about amps. Cannot find one(or two) that gives me what I want. Need a good clean channel, and some nice rhythm and lead tones. I was looking at a Fender Blues Jr. for some cleans and find them to be somewhat inconsistent from amp to amp. One sounds good, and another not so much. Also wish it had a loop, but thats life I guess. Rhythm and lead tone wise, I am clueless. Thinking maybe a JCA 22H still. Hoping that can get me into JCM800 territory at better volumes.

I am going crazy right now because I am completely ampless.

What happened to the Tweaker?? Is their something else you are looking for it does not do? I dunno, maybe I can help,,I seem to have experience with quite a few amps!

I tried the tweaker again and it just didnt give me as much mojo as I would have liked. Honestly, I am so unsure of the entire situation, I am looking at everything under the sun. I am pretty happy though, as my parents told me today ( since I made the original post) that they wouldn't mind a 1/2 stack in my room   That being said, I think I would be much happier with a 1/2 stack. I really like the sound of a marshall overdrive, but need a good clean channel too.

Marshall overdrive,,easy,,Marshall!  Maybe Vintage Modern? What kind of clean channel are you looking for?

Cleaner the better. Closer to fender clean the better, but needs to be able to do that clean on verge of overdrive sound. The second part isnt as necessary as I can always add a pedal to do that. Ideal would be seperate EQ for both channels, but thats not always possible.

So in total:
ch1 Very clean cleans
CH2: marshall overdrive

Needs to be a head with a loop

Try a Blackstar 104EL34. It does everything your looking for and sounds killer.

Ah, the old Fender clean and Marshall drive quest, good luck on that   Ever try a Lonestar Classic? Two amps?? Princeton Reverb or Deluxe Reverb and then your favorite Marshall.

whats the budget ..Egnater Renegade will do both basically a fender deluxe and a Hot Jcm800 based voicing

lets say for the sake of this tone quest, that there is no budget ( NO SLO though   ) since I will be doing this over time.

Lonestar classic never agreed with me. I like the standard Lonestar's clean channel, but the drive channel is just not to my liking. I dont know why, but I have never been much of a Mesa guy, even though I really want to like Mesa's.

2 amps would be okay, just not 2 stacks. It would have to be 2 amps like a half stack and a combo. A fender combo and a marshall 1/2 stack would work. Just very uncertain what route I want to go for the Marshall. So many choices....

Egnater Mod 50 with a Bman and an SL or SL2. That's 4 channels too!

From what you're saying, you definitely need to try a Peters Polaris. I'm in Metuchen, and you're welcome to come try my amps out. A friend has a music school that we jam at a lot in Edison.

Try a Mesa Mark V. Tough to beat for versatility and functionality. A lot of varied tone on tap and won't break the bank.

Steve

Maybe a Splawn Quickrod? Decent clean, tons of gain options, loop.

How about the new Mesa RA-100, cleans sound really nice on the clips and the gain channel has a British flavor.

A used Marshall DSL50 head also comes to mind, not fender cleans on channel 1, but they are solid. A Laney VH100R or the combo version the VC50 would be good choices on the used market as well.

I also think a used DSL would be a good option, but what tones are you going for exactly? A 1/2 stack vs. a fender blues jr. is a pretty different thing altogether too.

Hmm, tone wise, Id like the be able to cover the following ground : Overdrive Marshall = GNR, Maiden, and some Bonamassa.
Clean tone wise, I love the Gilmour clean tone, and how it can be layered with pedals. A very nice clean tone with some warmth to it. That is why I was gravitating to Fender, since Hiwatt and Reeves are out of the question for me.

It would need to be an amp that likes SC and humbuckers too.
