My job is considered "essential", I've been out on paid leave for the last 4 weeks because I'm in the high risk group due to my severe asthma. Now all the leave is used up so no more taking it easy. Back to the grind.

Me too
We tried to shut down for 2 weeks, then re asses the situation because I literally had a woman who called me to get her freezer back up and running say to me when I was done -
"Do you really think you should be going into all these homes? What if your spreading it to everyone? You probably should shut down doncha think???
Hmmmm... You called me in a panic because you just got a bunch of food from the store and your freezer quit.... Remember?
"Well yes, but I couldn't loose all that food, that was a lot of money"
So, are you saying everyone else but you should just suffer through it and loose their food, but your's must be saved?
"Well that's not what I said at all..."
Hmmm.. Ok

So we decided when we got everything that was started back up and running we would close for 2 weeks and re asses....
We had people loosing their minds on the phone because we had closed... 2 weeks turned into roughly 4 days...
So Monday we are back to pounding asphalt nonstop
Your dammed if you do and dammed if you don't, but dammed if you do seems to be the lesser of 2 evils at the moment...
Be careful out there brother, nobody gonna look out for you except you

Oh, on a lighter note, I went into the Kubota dealership here where I live, I know everyone in there by name. I do a ton of biz with them. When I walked in I got halfway up the main isle and started coughing my guts up like I was gonna drop dead, when I looked up everyone in there had a look of sheer utter terror on their faces...
AAAAAAA Just kidding!! I'm fine

It was pretty funny, they laughed their asses off

Yeah it’s been a bitch. We never missed a day.
Now the post master of saginaw and a station manage are quarantined. Cute eh?

If you’re worried about your health / wealth stay home, working for paper dollars isn’t going to be the same especially after the fed is buying everything and .gov is allowing it.

I had to go back wed and thursday. Then we had a meeting where I kinda let my feelings be known. I work in research and development for latex. I don't mind going into work if it's something going into gloves, food packaging etc. You know stuff that is keeping the country going. What I didnt want to do is work on projects just so they can beat the competition to market for a niche product which is exactly why they had me come in. "we have to get started cause we have a 6 month testing phase that we want to get started on". Nope sorry. You cannot give me a 2% raise for two years straight with glowing performance reviews then expect me to put my family at risks over basically paint. So I'm going in Monday and Tuesday to finish the formulas that I agreed to then Im working from home. My company took advantage of chemicals being an essential business. I work a second job on Saturdays where we basically make bowling ball cleaner. Technically thats the chemical industry but is it essential? No. Thats the way I feel about what Im doing at my main gig. The bad thing is they gave us 30 days of time off during the pandemic BUT havent let us actually take it. Then after I bitched they said "we cant force you to come in if you feel uncomfortable." Well that wasnt communicated to me at all until I bitched.

We live beside my wife's 89 year old grandmother and occasionally we have to do stuff for her and also my wife got sick a couple years back and lost over half of her hearing. Her ENT doctor said that we have to be careful if she ever gets sick cause she could end up deaf. What I'm doing at work is not more important than either of their health. Companies spout off about safety but when its safety vs the almighty dollar the dollar wins every time. They pay less corporate taxes these days and cant manage being down for a couple weeks? Where did all that savings go? Our 2% raises surely isnt eating that up.

You guys take care of yourself and your loved ones the best you can cause nobody else will

Never missed a beat. Been working even harder from from day one and I am extremely grateful to be doing so.
I am taking all precautions and praying for the best.

My thoughts too. My other buddies been at home the last three weeks.
First I was jealous. But all kinda shitstorms going on their house penned up with the ‘better half’
Couple guys call me randomly during the day hammered. (Something I do on weekends)
Saying they just wanna go back to work.
After 3 days home I get stir Crazy.

This.

I've been out for a little over two weeks. I have three kids, one is a 10 month old baby. In addition to people coming and going through the building I'm also in and out of their nasty ass cars all day. On Monday I talked to my immediate manager and he told I and another guy with a small child to take the rest of the month off and the owners volunteered to pay us even though we offered to take off without pay to keep our families safe. They called yesterday and reneged on the deal entirely and want everybody to come back to work, yet we'll be sitting on stools and getting paid for it because there's very little work coming through the door. There have been quite a few texts with quite a few people in the last two days and everybody whose opinion I respect has said almost the same as what I quoted from Clint. They're adding 450-600 new cases a day in my state.

Stay safe everybody.

on a positive note I'm gonna be getting a 20% bonus every week just for showing up.

My wife pointed out today that I may have already had covid 19.
A while back I suddenly started coughing one day and developed a sore throat from hell. I have never gone to the Doc for a sore throat but this was really severe. My wife was afraid I had strep. (this was maybe 2 weeks before the covid scare) so I went to an urgent care. The tested me for flu and strep, both were negative. They didn't give me a reason for the light fever and extreme sore throat. They just gave me a prescription for something to sooth my throat and sent me on my way. About a week or 2 later I was in my Pulmonologist office sick and was diagnosed with Pneumonia. So maybe I'm good , no way to know though

I've been working steady all the way through. Gov't says we are an essential service.

We make toilet paper, so yeah, I guess we are

I fix the the stuff that breaks, so I don't have to interact with the people too much, just the machines.

Pretty early on they set up a thermo-graphic scanner at security. No one gets in to the plant with a temp over 37.7 deg C.

So far so good.

PS: for anyone in southern Ontario, STOP HOARDING THE T.P. :gethim:

There are warehouses full of the stuff, and we are still making 300 tons a day.

I'm working 6 nights a week, taking only a 34 hour break before starting back up again. Running lots of paper products from Kimberley Clark and Georgia Pacific out of Oklahoma and a lot of Wal-Mart and Amazon. Lots of glass being hauled out of Tulsa. My company finally handed out some gloves and sanitizer this week. Very few cars on the road makes the job better, but the truck stop restaurant situation sucks for night drivers like me. At least I'm able to get supplies on the weekends again now.

Very glad I am a recession proof job,but damned if I'm not wore out right now. I'm only 20,000 miles short of my 2 million safe miles bonus. Should get there by the end of June. Gonna take a week off the moment I get to 2 million...if my company will let me. They are relying on the senior drivers big time to keep the important lanes open.

Stay safe everyone. I've been working my ass off for the last 3 weeks, but all from home or my office/lab at work where everyone else is gone. I'm glad I'm recession proof but am very much looking forward to being back to work, on a normal schedule. I'm guessing it'll be August at the earliest for me, maybe July for something akin to normal. I hope I'm wrong and it's earlier.

My company set up a virtual desktop computer system October of last year... I haven’t missed any work and have actually been working longer hours. 95% of the employees are now working from home and will continue to until at least May 10th. Considering I work for a mega financial company, it’s impressive to see 15,000 people working from home. I have a feeling the company will consider removing some office buildings and eliminate the workplace risk...which will save them a boatload of cash (building costs, insurance, security, printers, supplies, etc). That said, I hate working from home because as I mentioned earlier, I’m actually working more because I’ve eliminated the drive time...another benefit the company gets. Something I’ve noticed about working from home is I don’t move around much...which is terrible for my health.

Same here.....LEO in southwest Ontario.....business as usual.. nitrile gloves and dust masks...except for stocking up on toilet paper.......priorities my man.....bahahahaha

Professional Chef here... This whole thing was great at first. I'll admit, i after 12 years of doing this, and 4 years at the same job (after 16 years at the same job...doing stuff before i started cooking at said job), i was getting burnt out, even in a perfect situation. Its been about 3 weeks, and now i'm DYING to go back to work even to do the most mundane shit. I miss the pressure, and the feeling of real confidence after kicking ass through a busy service, i miss the stress, i miss eating whatever the fuck i want, whenever i want, i miss burning myself, i miss the way my feet feel after standing for 8-10 hours straight.

Haven't missed a minute of work...yes....I'm essential....lol!
