One of the things I like about the 81 is it's tight, but it also has a very small sounding low end.

Thats a big reason why its so tight. For metal you want to trim the lows going into the amp, then reintroduce them later in the signal path.

I refuse to try the Motor City pickups. The fact that they stole Tim's ideas leaves a sour taste in my mouth. All the way down to the distressed covers. At least come up with something a little original.

Tim at Bareknuckle is far from the originator of the hand wound pickup. yes the distressed cover look is obviously a nod to BK but Wade's distressed cover are all one offs. a work of art if you will. none look like Tim's and no two even look alike. hes also doing a lot more finishes that Tim at BK offers so there is originality there.

I know you love Tim and his pickups which is cool but having contempt for another pickup maker because his designs are similar is silly.

If distressed pickup covers are popular isn't it a good business decision to offer to the public what they want? Aside from that fact Wade's pickups don't sound like Tim's which is the only thing that matters anyway.

The "Frying Pan" was the first electric guitar ever produced. The instrument was created in 1931 by George Beauchamp, and subsequently manufactured by Rickenbacker Electro. By your logic you should never play any other guitar made as it is the original and the rest are just copies...

Exactly. That's why I like the 81, and its also the reason I keep telling guys that all these modded OD pedals with boosted low end make a less than ideal boost for metal.

I agree with you. There is more to it but I am not at liberty to discuss it.

fair enough...

I have a Motor City Solution. It's supposed to be a cross between an 81 AND 85. It's got a little more bottom than an 81 and much more organic. I ordered mine with an Alnico magnet and it really sounds good on the top end.
