Bark at the Moon isolated track...all sorts of buried gems

I think it’s an overdub they added afterwards since it’s not in the original isolated track. Either way the song is great and the isolated track reveals lots of stuff. I hear a slide in one part that I’ve never picked up on... etc. ?
Yea Dave, that is definitely an overdub. When he plays it live if you go back and look and listen with Ozzy live he doesnt do the hits but the keyboards and bass do. There is also a vid where he actually teaches that main riff and he does not accent the hits as well.

Sounds like keyboard to me and/or possibly as you guys have said, just an overdub put in to accent the main riff after the fact.

Yeah, I saw his tutorial. ?. Musically it makes sense though since the drums are following along with the chord changes in the intro. Likely an over dub, but when I slow it down and EQ it, it’s there ??

Absolutely. If I'm playing it with keys I dont accent, but if its just bass I do. Sounds a little odd otherwise.

I still can't figure out what effect he has on the solo. Is it a flanger or is it a phaser? Both?

I've been asking myself that for years as well and I have to think it is chorus, slap back verb (so kind of like being in a tight bathroom powder room) and flanger. I think there is wah in the beginning part too which cuts right at the point the overdub of those x 3 low to high runs that end the solo kick in.

Sounds like a flanger on the solo. Short sweep with high regeneration? An MXR flanger can sound like chorus is the sweep is shorter.

Amazing how little gain it sounds like on the track too. Could be a stock Marshall just goosed a little with his Boss OD-1.

Ben Eller shows a photo where he had a Boss Flanger on his board and no Phaser during that tour so...there you go.

I just noticed the outro solo is a totally different tone. Way smoother, less raw.

Who else started playing "You're No Different " in their head at the end of this track?

It’s studio flanging at the console, like an Eventide insta-flanger, not an effect pedal
I play in an Ozzy tribute and have been trying to replicate it for years. I’m using Fractal gear and I get in the ballpark but it’s not perfect.

Except every video I’ve seen of him playing it live back then he doesn’t use anything for the solo. It’s just his straight raw sound. ?‍♂️

Agreed, live he just always played it without a different effect than his live sound. At the time that had to be chorus and OD-1 into JCM800's on the road (unless he brought his plexis)

So am I the only one that hears the wah in the first part of the middle solo??

I know what your talking about. That first note.

Man, Joe is a great player but to me he was always meh on Jake's stuff. He doesn't catch the timing and vibrato at all. Very underwhelming to me. I remember thinking that on this tour when I saw it. Also tuning issues with strats

This kid seems to be playing what I’m talking about although he’s not sliding up, he’s playing the riff with the emphasized drum beat. I watched in 1/2 time. You can clearly see him strum to the drums.
