Here is an audio demo I did of the Baron Custom Amps K2. I explained it all in the video.



Guitar was a Dean Vendetta with Duncan Distortions.

Cabinet was a Mesa Rectifier 4x12.

The cabinet was recorded with a 57 up to the grille and a condenser about 7 feet back for a little air.

ZERO processing was used on this.

That sounds pretty damn good. More gain and bright than I would use but still great. I like how the busier riffs are well defined.
 
Great job ! Amp sounds very good. Good call on including the condenser mic, really helps to capture the 'size and shape' of the cab resonating in the room.
 
Thanks. My room is untreated. I plan on getting some treatment come April when I refinish the room and then I can make some better demos. Sorry for the sloppy playing ;)
 
Yeah I like how agressive it sounds when you have the mids backed down on the second part. I like the playing there as well. I love how these amps sound.

does the amp sound that bright in the room?

thats a LOT brighter than the clips that you did for him on the web site
 
No problem, Dave. I have a project I just used the K2 to reamp with, so as soon as I ask the artist permission, I'll be posting it up.

You must have had at least a high pass there, buddy.
 
I do not have a high-pass; let me elaborate:

The amp is very focused in the low mids and not so much in the very low end. Having a guitar amp voiced with so much sub lows, like some designs are, is completely ridiculous. The guitar is a midrange instrument and needs plenty of power throughout a relatively narrow range of very important frequencies IMHO. This amp sits great in mixes, because it leaves a nice deal of highs for cymbals and vocal air, as well as plenty of room for bass guitar. I also keep my cabinet a decent distance from the wall when I record and the cabinet is on casters, which is very nicely decoupled from the ground.

No low-pass either,

The only possible removal of high end may be destructive interference from multi-micing, which is doubtful considering that the two other mics used (one for my talking, and the other in the back for air) are so much lower in volume. You're getting mostly the 57 that's up to the grill of the Mesa cabinet. Mesa 4x12 Rectifier cabinets have V30s with a good deal less high end than regular V30s. The thing that really seals the deal is that Dave has done an excellent job focusing the amplifier's voicing on the most pleasant, yet cutting high frequencies.

All the amps sound great at the high gain but are there any clips of lower gain crunch tones like AC/DC or are these amps pretty much clean channel and super gain channels without much in-between....Now before you say my amps can do that by rolling back the volume of the guitar really be honest about how that holds up to a good 70's 6 knob Marshall.
I wish I could try one in person. The youtube clips don't show any change in feel and hardly any in gain when you change the gain control.
 
Sorry, skoora, I'm balls to the wall. If you'd like, I'll try to get out my mid-output guitar and play around a little bit on Monday with the volume knob.
 
Well, if it's not a cancellation, then that amp definitely has not enough low end for me. Either way, not my thing, but done great & sounds great!

How's the live functionality of the amp? Channels, loops, switchability?

The bass was at noon, as well as the master "resonance" control. You can get quite a bit more lows out of the amp if desired.

The footswitch is flawless. It has a channel switch, loop switch, and boost switch. Nothing is left to be desired.

This is exactly how my Fortin Hulk Modded Marshall is designed. Guys who don't play in bands would probably not like this amp because it does not have a ton of sub low end (80hz and below) like a Bogner Twin Jet or Diezel Herbert...but it sounds better than those amps in a mix by far, and the bass is tighter than either of those amps. :thumbsup:

I dig the K2 and K88, by the way. Great clean tones as well. :thumbsup:

I thought the K88 I had sounded great in my bedroom. But I will agree, it was definitely different than the Bogner/Diezel/ENGL type amps I generally go for. :)
