I was wondering if there are many bass players here? I play bass a lot, on my recordings, and have done it professionally as well. And unlike with guitar, I tend to prefer a real minimalist setup versus the rack gear and various effects I like to have available on guitar. I also prefer bassists who show up with a Fender bass and a SVT versus some multi-laminate bubinga 5 string with some hartke crap.
I generally use a Fender P Bass with the only effect being a Boss Octaver. I also tend to like using a Marshall or 5150 thru a 4x12 too. What about the rest of you?

I'm a bassist and much like the guitar there are different strokes for different folks. Since my main influence and introduction into bass was from a jazz fusion player I lean toward the 5 strings and six strings with the crazy wood tops and so and so forth. Sine that is what I learned on that is what is comfortable.

I like Wyn basses mostly because of the tone and also the look, but mostly the tone is outrageous! My minimal rock bass tone is a vintage Rickenbacker. My preferred amp was an Ashdown Klystron preamp into the Ashdown power amp. John Entwistle and Ashdown design that preamp and less than 100 were made and the tone was killer. Like amps and guitars I like to mix it up. Now a days I want the David Eden stuff and especially the WTB1000. That amp is amazing! That amp is on my way down the road gas list.

I still consider myself a bassist despite predominately playing guitar recently. I have the same feelings about it as you. I play my Bill Nash P-Bass through my Mesa Titan V12. No crazy effects, no piles of amps for different sounds, etc. I do however also have a Rickenbacker 4001-a must have in my opinion.

I play bass on songs that I write....so for me, mainly just recording with a bass, nothing live.
I like simple setups too. The only must for me is a compressor.

For me : Ibanez Prestige 4-string--->Markbass SD1200--->Schroeder 4x10.

Once in a great while I consider changing something about it. But I haven't yet found a way to improve on the simplicity, reliability or playability of this rig. The Ibanez is fast, with ultra low action...and NEVER goes out of tune. The Markbass is very clean...lots of headroom. The Schroeder is loud, clean, and punchy. I'm set up and playing in less than 3 minutes.

I've played bass on and off for a few years, I temped on bass for a classic rock band last year but it didn't last.

I think it's more "fun" than guitar. I'd rather play a really nice bassline under something than strum chords for the majority of a song.

This is my rig, I don't have a favorite brand of basses, I like fenders, spectors, wal, zon, etc... Pretty much anything that plays well and sounds big. I like SVTs, but I'm a Trace fan, as far as FX go, depends on what the music needs, I'm a HUGE tool fan, so I like em for certain things. But push come to shove a good Spector and my Trace/Stewart/Acmes and I'm a happy camper.

I really like my Fender Jazz Bass.

I don't have a bass amp. I just use whatever amp is available at venue's. I record direct.

No effects on bass. Ever. Maybe a little hair.

I just fill in on bass. Not really a "bass" player, but I pride myself on actually being able to play bass and not play bass like a guitar player. I hate that.

I've been a bass player longer than a guitar player.

My current rig is:

Lakland 4-94
Lakland 44-02
Lakland 55-01

I have a Jazz Bass, but am using a buddies Rickenbacker into a Tech 21 Bass Driver that drives the front end of an SWR Super Redhead with a SWR 4x10 cab, and a Peavey Black Widow 18" sub. It will tickle your balls

That V12 is a pretty beastly amp, my bass player bought one(with some advice from me). What cab(s) do you use?

i tried one of those Aguilar amps recently, it was really nice and bold.
