Not so much a challenge, really just a light hearted (this place gets fuckin nasty sometimes over gear choices, heh) side by side comparison of the BE pedal through a Friedman clean channel (the SmallBox) and the BE channel of the SmallBox itself. Same guitar, mic/speaker, etc for both sides. Simple crunchy double tracked riff, one side is the pedal, the other is the amp. If I wasn't wiped out for the day I'd drop a third track down the center and noodle over this a bit...maybe tomorrow.

Anyway, not wanting to add to the drama, just wanted to put this out there....the pedal doesn't suck.

Also, no post EQing or processing here, these are raw mic'd tones so folks can here the full scope - if I were to make this into a legit mix/tune, I'd probably trim a hair off the low end on both tracks to let them sit nice and tidy with everything else.

Rule #1, a pedal will never sound as good as an amp. Come on man, it's guitar forum 101. On a serious note, sounds good mane.

Pssst, pretty sure I didn't make that claim - just offering up a nice side by side sampling...

Thanks for checking it out!

Clip sounds great. My pedal arrives tommorrow. Just in time for a weekend jam.

Nice. Grats! Those Saturday delivery's can be sketchy tho, hope it shows up!

It's coming fed ex. One time I actually got an amp delivered on a Sunday. Lol

Should be fine. Coming from Indiana to Michigan. Maybe a 6 hour drive.

ha! It'll show. Curious to hear where your trim pot is set at, make sure to crack it open and check it out.

I want to try it with 18v myself, some are saying they hear a difference - I've always been skeptical over that whole 18v = better results notion, but who knows?

Well I ordered the 18v along with it.
Good buddy of mine played the pedal at namm and just raved about it. And yes he owned a Friedman.
Told me it was a must have.
Going to run it into the clean channel of my modded recto.
Should be interesting.

The pedal vs. amp argument gets as stupid as the modeller vs. amp argument. Fueled mainly, IMO, by dudes have a hard time with the fact that you don't need a $4k head to get good tone. Fact is, the tone in the clip the OP has offered up is better than half a the "amp" clips guys post here anyway so AFAIC, argument over. Pedals through a clean channel can sound as good as an amp. Who gives a fuck if the resistors, caps, opamps and diodes are inside the amp or outside?

Carry on.

Agreed. It's still using the Amps power section. Just using the pedal as a pre-amp.
I am excited to check this thing out.

My mistake then, could've worded it better I suppose and just ran it as a "here's a pedal and amp comparison through the same setup clip" some were asking for (though they are seeking the BE100 and BEOD comparisons, possibly not as much the SB).

I was hoping somebody would take a stab at guessing soon, have to hit the rack (running in a race in the morning, needs some solid sleep ZZzz).

I will try to make a clip of the pedal running thru my amp on clean and then clicking over to the amps gain section.
Probably gonna use it in my engl this weekend.
Blew my fuse out in the recto trying to get my mark iii to fire up.
And the clean channel on the Engl is about as good as it gets. ;)

A lot of the BE-OD clips on here are people running it through their other Friedman amps like Smallbox. When you add it all up that's a rather expensive rig too ($2800 + $200), which is getting pretty close to a $3700 BE100.

Would love to hear more clips of it running into common backline amps like JCM2000, Twin Reverb, JC120 etc. Or practice amps like Blackstar HT, Orange Terror, Laney IRT etc.

Sounds like it's doing a pretty respectable job through a Pro Jr though:

Interesting. I like the pedal tones better than the actual named amp. Granted, I heard a few pedal clips that were buzzy...but I'm blaming that on bad recording technique.

I get the modeler vs amp thing as well as the pedal vs an amp. But to be honest i have never played a pedal that sounds as good as the be od. It actually sounds better than a 5150III 50 watt when playing through my smallbox. I am wondering how different this pedal sounds through a fender vs a friedman though?

Left channel amp - Right channel pedal ? Sounds like they could probably be EQ'd to be pretty close.

I cant tell the difference....great sounding clip regardless!!

In the first 5 seconds of the clip is that the pedal or amp? That is a nice crunchy tone that I could live with
