BE100 effect loop and Rack Gear?

Hey guys....

I just picked up a BE100 and if anyone has been on the fence on getting one like me (2 years) just get it! I can not believe this amp.

I do have a question though, I'm using an Fractal Axe FX II in the fx loop...

On the BE, I have to crank the loop level knob in the back to 10 and the front master volume knob to 6 to 8 just be able to play at a nice level with a band, disengage the loop and that amp will remove paint from the walls... LOUD!

just to be clear... I've used an Marshall JVM, Mesa MV, Mesa MV:25 with the same patch and it is all normal, no issues in volume loss at all, so there is something different about this fx loop.... so I need to know how to build patches different with the BE, any ideas?
 
It should work out so that if your loop return is set around 8, you should be able to turn the loop on and off and not hear a difference in volume if your master is around 6.

Thats how it works on mine anyway.

Yea... that is what I'm thinking!! .... do you use an Axe Fx II?....
 
I was going to post and ask Dave this. There have been quote a few BE-100 revisions over the years. Some people use rack in the loop, some people use pedals. The newer units have Dave's FX Loop, but earlier models had the Metro Loop. Likewise, some have input and output (return) levels, but the one's that don't are set internally!

The question is...with the older units and Metro-loop, how to set up the FX loop depending on pedal? I mean, it should be equal with it on or off. I mean you could run out of headroom and have the return cranked on "10" and still not enough volume to be equal to it off (and maybe why the person has it on "10). So for this, the input needs to be increased on the loop within the amp. the question is how to set this?!? I mean (if one has available) a portable audio signal generator, what do you set it at?...say 1kHz and 1VP-P or what? What do you want to see on the other end??

What's the procedure and best way to set this?? I assume the lower of the two. Which would that be?? If not already answered previously, I think an explanation would be helpful to owners and techs on the forum.
 
Sounds to me you have your rack gear level set wrong. Simple test, with loop on and Return level set at 3 o'clock. Now with nothing in the loop click the switch in and out and you should have unity gain,no mater what the master is set at on the front. Now leave it in and plug your axe fx in. Pull the retun cable in and out and adjust levels on the axefx till you get unity gain, you are losing level in the unit. In the future i might take the return level out as people these days have no concept of gain staging. Dave

Update:

did exactly what Dave said... then In the Axe Fx- Fx Loop block raised the output level by 6db's and it is Unity gain.
