I run the BE channel volume on 6 and gain on 6 through a Rivera Rockcrusher on -3db.. sounds seeeexxxy.. problem is I cheked the output transformer and she.. was.. pissed. HOT!! My question is should I scrap the attenuator and just use ear plugs, or is there something else i can do to get this tone without melting the transformer, as in lower bias, use variac, pull power tubes, all 3, or is it ok for the transformer to get this hot? I couldn't hold my finger on it for a second.

Nevermind, ran variac at 100 volts and ran amp at same length of time and OT is cooler, can count to five, vol and gain on 7.

You mean the power transformer. Not to worry they do get really hot when pushed. They won't melt just go for it.

 That's great news..Thanks! I'll put er to er then. I think it sounds better at normal voltage. I was worried I was gonna fry it. I appreciate the help!
