What do you guys like? I've been using nyxl's since they started making them in my gauges. Having said that I've only used elixirs or for a stint there SOB's. For the last ten years. The first 15 years of my guitar "journey" I used whatever the shop down the road had... Usually Ernie Balls and I know for a fact I can't really gel with those so they're off the table. This has only come up because my Mayones came from a shop sporting some string in my tuning that I dug the feel of and sounded good. I asked the shop and they thought they were either Ernie Balls or SIT. I wouldn't even be mad if they were Ernie actually because they always felt great just sound was lifeless shortly after. I had to micrometer the strings to find out the gauge which were 10-52's... And EB AND SIT BOTH USE THE SAME GAUGES... So no help there. I put on a set of nyxl's in that gauge since I normally do a set of 11's and a 56 on top in drop c# ...they were tighter than the 11's on the prs... So now that I'm off my soap box. What are some amazing sounding strings that aren't hard on the fret and have some brilliance or at least good tone even if it's not bright and have a little give. Searching for opinions and suggestions before trying the obvious and getting some SIT and EB to try. Just wish I could get the sound of the nyxl's without the stiffness. Guess I could just man up.

I might be nuts but I think different guitars like different strings as far as stiffness, tone, buzzing go.

i usually grab whatever but i really wanna try a set with a wound 3rd. i also wanna try some of billy gibbons super lights also. back in the day i only used heavy gauge dean markley flatwounds on my les pauls. great for riffing and harmonics...tough on bends.

I like Boomers, D'Addario and DR. I find Ernie Ball's die too fast. I'll actually grab whatever's available in my gauge as long as it's not E.B. or Elixirs.

I don't think you're nuts at all with that really. Touring/playing shows all the time it's just nicer to have one gauge type though knowwhatimeanvern

I put D'addario on my Mayones and there was buzzing. Put SIT on it and it felt and played perfect with no buzz. It was not a neck relief issue with one set having more tension. SIT strings on another guitar I did not like. I have had similar experiences with other guitars and string brands.

Ive used GHS for 30 years & the Big Cores CL 9.5 to .048 for the last 11 years.

Sounds like I might be giving those a try for sure... Considering that's a possible candidate for what was on there. maybe they'll be cool on the others too?

GHS DYL are my favorite strings. I haven't tried them all but I prefer GHS over EB any day of the week and that wound 3rd feels amazing in comparison. They're 12's so if that's not your thing idk who else makes them.

I thought about giving GHS a go too since Mayones is a distributor... I would imagine that's stock on their fiddles.

So that's regular daddario, SIT's, GHS, ...and if I'm desperate some Ernie balls is they work good end up being the middle ground to my disdain hahaha!

EBs are just my go-to brand and have been ever since I couldn't find some Dean Markley's back when I was 14 years old one day

That was well over 30 years ago.

D'Addario in a pinch.

Used Slinky greens for years, then switched to D'Addario 10's. Bought 2 five packs of Elixers and have been using them. I hate changing strings, I don't like new strings so the Elixers are good,I can get almost 6 months out of them on anything but my #1.

DR strings for me for very long time. I use 11-50 and sometimes 10-52. Best string I have played and I have tried most all of them. For me I had less breaks, they lasted longer than any other brand by far and their sound was more consistent from being brand new to being time to change them. I won't use anything else unless I absolutely have to. If that is the case I just usually grab different guitars.

Daddario ticks all the boxes. Nyxl are a bit too dear for as much as I need to change strings. Ernie ball sound great but basically need to be changed every other day or so which is a no go. But the regular daddario last a fair amount, are extremely consistent, sound and feel good and are fairly priced.

These days I was really surprised how nice those Fender strings are. I put them on my Van Halen guitars because they're the same gauge like the evh labeled strings and more than a half cheaper.
Amazing feel and they last pretty long. Nice!

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going to try the regular D'Addarios, SIT's, and GHS and see which I like better. If I can't stand the feel I'll stick to the nyxl because I dig the sound... And I'm sure I can be more manly eventually. I just can't do Ernie Balls... Only strings I've had that went dead just from playing them an hour and they were very warm to begin with. My "mojo" is very friendly on strings, I can usually go 2/3 shows before needing a change just for ease of mind so I don't break a string. So I may bit the bullet and go the different brand or gauge on different guitars thing.

Elixr Nanoweb , I went through a phase of comparing strings...DR, SIT, Ernieball, GHS, etc etc.

The Elixrs sound and feel great for me. What surprised me when swaping different sets of strings on my guitar was how much of a noticable difference in tone you will get from different brands. So it's such a personal preference type of thing that it might be worth doing a string shootout.
