Let's take on two of the biggest and most influential bands of all time. Which one does it for you over and above the other?

not big on either but I'll go with the Beatles as I saw the Stones and it is the worst concert I ever witnessed...they flat out sucked live. Saw them in 81 or 82 when to supposedly their farewell tour (it should have been cause they still suck) Clarence Clemmons on sax was the highlight and he's not even a member of the Rolling Stones ;) I've never been to a show where I couldn't wait for it to end, the longer it went on, the more and more it sucked.

both have some excellent songs.

Stones are great, but in my mind its no contest, the Beatles take this one.

The Beatles. No contest. They changed their sound over and over and continually progressed. They also wrote songs that attempted to affect social change and influence the world for the better. The Stones are cool, but one dimensional compared to The Beatles. Their forte is sleazy rock, and no one does it better, but the Beatles are in a class by themselves. No other band will ever compare. IMHO! ;)

No contest. The Beatles are just above and beyond for me. I do love the Stones, but the Beatles are the masters for song writing. I can almost sing along to every Beatle song including Yellow Submarine.

Stones.

The Beatles are great but not really my cup of tea. I prefer the swagger.

It's 2012, really?

Yes, it's 2012.

You're welcome.

Yeah sorry I was stuck in a drug haze and was hallucinating that people were still arguing about which two English pop bands from 40 years ago were the best band ever

Clearly, both have been hugely successful, but...

Lennon & McCartney

I'm not going to vote, but I just wanted to take this opportunity and say that I hate the rolling stones and mick fagger. The only classic rock band I hate more is Aerosmith.

I know it wasn't helpful or constructive but whatever. Long live the False Paul

Before I hit the poll for STONES, I knew it was going to be a landslide for the Beatles. And I understand why - I think the Beatles had more impact on the generations of music to come, but I simply love the Stones for all that they are and have been. They really took blues and some deep schmaltzy grooves and put in the face of the general public. I think Keith and Ron make one of the best rhythm sections in rock'n'roll. I think Watts is a metronome. I love the attitude, ego, arrogance and presence of Jagger when he was in his prime. It was the whole package that had me and has me (to this day) a fan.

Beatles are mega in their own right. But "for me to listen to on a regular basis", the Stones 100% of the way.

I feel like I have to choose The Beatles since my entire living room is covered in Beatles memorabilia and photos... but honestly that's a close battle and I can't really choose one over the other.
