Yes, it's 2012.

You're welcome.

Yeah sorry I was stuck in a drug haze and was hallucinating that people were still arguing about which two English pop bands from 40 years ago were the best band ever

Glad I could help. Which bands do you listen to you think people will still be talking about 40years from now?

Not trying to argue. Several other people in here have said they don't care about either band as well. To answer your question, lately I've been listening to a lot of Can, Faust, My Bloody valentine, Origin, Tombs, Negative Plane, Meshuggah, Black Dice, Black Breath, Asunder, Immortal, Blues Control, Zath, Pig Destroyer, Indian, The Who, Amon Duul II, Frank Zappa, Motörhead, morbid angel, Ruins of Beverast, Black Widow, Coven. Some of these are bands that have been and will be talked about. Some of them aren't. I just don't think music is the same culturally as it used to be. If we judged the quality of music by numbers, lil Wayne or lady Gaga would be the best music made today. Also, in the 60's there was only really one way to find out about music: the radio. Now there's a million ways. Facebook. Spotify. iTunes. Podcasts. Radio. Tv. Pandora. MySpace. Tape labels. YouTube. Record stores. Clothing stores. Starbucks. Blogs. 5 million culture magazines. There my be another Beatles out there, but how the hell is anyone supposed to filter all the crap to find them?

Just my take. That's all.

Stones by a long shot for me. To me the albums that were recorded by the Stones from '68-72 are absolutely incredible:

Beggars Banquet
Let it Bleed
Sticky Fingers
Exile on Main Street

And to me Exile on Main Street is the pinnacle - the greatest rock record ever recorded.

Throw in the killer live album "Get Yer Ya Yas Out!" recorded in that time period and it seals the deal for me. Greatest rock band EVER...

Never much into the Beatles, but I will say that my appreciation for them has grown over the years. I just like darker stuff, I guess...

Steve
I chose the Beatles, but I can't argue with this. I feel like I need to justify my pick

In the 80's, when I was in my Hair Metal groove, a local radio station was the only place to hear the music I liked. Unfortunately, it was mixed in with the Beatles, which they played so frequently, it nearly made me sick. In typical radio station fashion, they played the same 8 songs over and over. I didn't care for the Beatles prior to that and hearing the same shit over and over nearly made me hate them. I was in college at the time and needed to take an elective, so I picked "History of Rock and Roll". Easy class, right? Turns out the teacher was a Beatles freak. Long story short, he turned me on to the stuff that never got radio play. I was just starting to take music seriously at the time and found new respect for the Beatles. I don't listen to them regularly, and I'd be inclined to crank up a Stones tune more ofthen than one from the Beatles, but I have a lot of respect for the talent and song-writing skills.

Yeah, we should take about bands who are making history now that will be relevant in 20 years like......Cannibal Corpse, Rotting Fetus, or Anal Discharge.

  I always thought tracheal sodomy would've been a good name for a metal band.

Weeping Urethra

Wrecking Ball Gape.

The Beatles for me...and it's not even close.

Revolver, Sgt Pepper, Abbey Rd, The White Album, Rubber Soul.....some of the best albums of all time....not to mention their earlier pop stuff that got them noticed.

Beatles. I used to like the Stones more and not really care for the Beatles, but I've flip flopped over the years to appreciate the Beatles more, and after seeing the Stones live 20 years ago they completely sucked, and I lost alot of interest. Still like many of the songs, but for me Beatles win it.

And 40-50 years from now when all of those bands including lil douchebag or lady CaCa are gone and forgotten about they won't be a pimple on the ass of the Stones, the Beatles and especially the best of all (IMO) Led Zeppelin. Hell I'd chose Madonna over CaCA as someone that will be remembered and I can't stand either. A couple of other bands that I think will absolutely be remembered is AC/DC and Van Halen. I guess you can throw Hendrix in there too because its been 42 year since he died and he's still popular.

Keith Richards alone brings the Stones to the top.

Skull rings, lives in a castle, and wears pirate shirts.

Cannot argue with those facts.

Don't forget - he snorted some of his father's ashes.

That's over the top rock and roll right there

Left Turn Clyde.

The Beatles without a second of deliberation. The melodies are beautiful. The chord construction is timeless. The harmonies are something to aspire to to this day.
