I'm not going to vote, but I just wanted to take this opportunity and say that I hate the rolling stones and mick fagger. The only classic rock band I hate more is Aerosmith.

I know it wasn't helpful or constructive but whatever. Long live the False Paul
Also hate the Stones. (but not Aerosmith)

for me, The Beatles by miles and miles. The Stones were my least favorite of the British invasion but they had a period where they did put out some great music but Ive been borderline obsessed with The Beatles since my earliest memories of hearing them to this day...

A while back I was watching some award show, I can't remember which one but I'm sure others have seen it. Anyway, the stones were playing live and Mick Jagger was just walking saying "I want you, you, you...I want you, you, you" I swear to god it had to have been 50 times or more. Probably the most redundant thing I've ever heard. I could literally feel my blood pressure rising as I was watching his horse mouth open and close.

Yes, it's 2012.

You're welcome.

Yeah sorry I was stuck in a drug haze and was hallucinating that people were still arguing about which two English pop bands from 40 years ago were the best band ever
So go start a thread about something you care about rather than being a douchebag on this one.

The Beatles were the first boy band ever!!! Sad but true guys!  Like their later stuff, but the Stones more my style. Plus Keef Richards will probably outlive Ozzy and Lemmy! That dude is rock n roll incarnate.

Yeah, we should take about bands who are making history now that will be relevant in 20 years like......Cannibal Corpse, Rotting Fetus, or Anal Discharge.

  I always thought tracheal sodomy would've been a good name for a metal band.

Those bands are pretty tired already actually. Cannibal Corpse is a bunch of old fat men who can barely get around stage. And yes I like metal but no i dont think most of it is groundbreaking. And I like the Beatles just fine. The stones have one good song, IMO, the first one off of let it bleed. Just don't see the point of all these greatest ever polls that read like the same old guitar magazine issues ad nauseum. But mostly I was just good naturedly picking.

I actually made the last 2 up.  Are they real bands?

And guess what. There's only a short list of bands who can play and sellout an outdoor stadium by themselves, and most of them are from years gone by. The Beatles and the Stones are 2 of them.

I chose Stones, just because I really enjoy listening to them more.

Well,if you are thinking best ever...for sure it's nobody from the last 20 or 30 years.

Stones for me.

For changing music, the Beatles wrote lots of pop songs. As a kid I had their first album. As time went by I liked the Stones. No denying the contribution of the Beatles but I can't stand 15 seconds of them. I like the studio versions of lots of stones songs but they can sound like pressure cooked shit.

giimie shelter, bitch, I hear you knockin, slave.. Those are songs I can listen to.

Just can't bear to see them butcher those songs now.

They play this Sirius crap at work all day and for a week once, it seemed like an eternity, they played The Beatles. I was ready to siriusly hurt somebody. It drove me insane. I thought for some reason I was always supposed to say I revered the Beatles. Well...........I respect them, but..........

It's all cool. We like what we like.

Anal discharge is. Rotting fetus isn't, but dying fetus is.

I guess I just don't judge the quality of music by how many people will pay ungodly sums of money to see it.

stones, the beatles have never excited me or been a band i cared about.

Stones by a long shot for me. To me the albums that were recorded by the Stones from '68-72 are absolutely incredible:

Beggars Banquet
Let it Bleed
Sticky Fingers
Exile on Main Street

And to me Exile on Main Street is the pinnacle - the greatest rock record ever recorded.

Throw in the killer live album "Get Yer Ya Yas Out!" recorded in that time period and it seals the deal for me. Greatest rock band EVER...

Never much into the Beatles, but I will say that my appreciation for them has grown over the years. I just like darker stuff, I guess...

Steve

I pick the stones. I believe the Beatles made a bigger contribution to the music world and they broke before the stones but when it comes down to who I listen to more and Makes me want to sing along to like a nut then it's the stones for me. Albums like sticky fingers , beggars banquet, let it bleed , are just perfect records, then again it's hard for anything to touch the white album. I love both though and it's a tough call. And for the guys who are trashing the stones based on a concert they may have seen in 06 or recently then I think you are missing the point. Who knows what the Beatles would be like if they were around today, I mean just look at some of Paul's projects.

Glad I could help. Which bands do you listen to you think people will still be talking about 40years from now?
