I think he’s onto something. Another reason I’d add is that metal (for example) was cutting edge and hugely creative in the 80’s/90’s. New sub-genres and new bands all the time. Sure, nowadays bands still make kick ass metal, but it’s kind of difficult to get quite as excited. Maybe I’m just old.

I watched that the other day. I'm not a fan of Beato, but he does have a point here.

I find it hard to listen to some of Rick's videos. Not because they aren't great or insightful but because I find it hard to watch them all. They take time and are often lengthy. This one at 12 minutes is a manageable length and I found it excellent. It was as usual, well presented, very insightful and it resonated with me a great deal.

Sadly re: the topic he is addressing I can't see the genie being put back in the bottle in our lifetimes. Less and less people devote themselves to traditional instruments and the discipline and time they require. They want instant gratification. Which makes my comment on finding time to listen to Rick Beato's videos a little ironic...

So easy, yet so little clippage.
That's a word, right? Clippage?
Anyways, I could care less if it is or isn't...

I'd say back to the underground, but I don't know if it's safe there either, if it ever was. Sneakernet maybe? Fire up the tape decks!

With the fact that anyone with a laptop these days is a musician, was the downfall of any really good rock and roll. People spend too much time with the software, instead if taking a guitar and an amp and experimenting with it. When you are alternating between learning a DAW and playing an instrument, there's a loss of creativity.

With actual music, physical, and a band of idiots that don't know what they're doing, if you stick with it, just past the point of where you say fuck it and give up, right on the other side all of a sudden things click and a magic moment happens. A lot of these older timeless bands had time. They didn't have to worry about $3000 mortgages, school, jobs. They had time to perfect their craft. I think more importantly, in the 60's and 70's was the vibe of freedom, and not having the stress the younger crowd has these days. Stress kills creativity.

I also think shows like American Idiot and all those other singing shows helped kill music, along with computers. Most of these idiots can't play an instrument, yet stand there on stage with a guitar in hand, don't write their own music, fake playing guitar and all the suckas in the audience have no idea. That BS disgusts me.

I havent been musically excited since Back in Black
One of my most fondest memories was a tape player in 4th grade classroom in the 70's. We had a good 10 minutes in the room, like 20 of us, no teacher. A kid had a tape with Juke Box Hero and Dirty Deeds on it. We went nuts for a solid 10 minutes before we got shut down. I was hooked from that point on.

Isn't "Juke Box Hero" from the 80s?
Is this like a Mandela Effect kind of thing?

He's right, but this is kind of a "i'm going to explain that the sky is blue" video

People have been saying this since the early 2000s

And honestly, music has sucked ass since the early 2000s

Young people know their music sucks, that's why they're so defensive about it - can confirm, i'm on the younger side for RT users

I'll be 19 next month.

No wonder errybody here seems to hate me.

That.. or because I can actually play.

I mean, lots of people can play on RT - there's just a handful of frequent fliers who don't/can't

I wouldn't presuppose jealousy or envy, when indifference can just as easily explain the phenomenon

edit: I can most definitely play as well, and no one seems to hate me except for donnie and the tone dig :dunno:

AM radio. Hanging in the back seat going to little league or someplace

God dam TNT came on.
Right then and their i knew i wanted to learn guitar.

Had to wait 3 more years for them to save up for my first lessons .

Bon was another huge inspiration. But my singing sucks 100x worse than my guitar playing. So i gave that up
