Hey guys?

I'm looking to replace the bridge pickup of my PRS singlecut. I've recently tried my first BKP, and I'm quite happy with the results, so I'd like to give another a shot in this guitar.

The guitar will be down tuned (Drop D, half step down)...fat mahogany body and neck, with maple top and rosewood fingerboard. I'm looking for a good, fat, high gain sound, while retaining clarity. Output wise, I'm honestly still undecided....I've had good results with both low and high output pickups in this guitar.

So, anyone have any experience with BKPs in a les paul type guitar? From what I could find, I'm thinking either Painkiller or Nailbomb, but I'd appreciate some first hand opinions.

Thanks much!

Eric

Lower Output: Riff Raffs
Medium Output: Rebel Yells
High Output: Painkillers

Don't neglect checking out Abraxas and the Aftermath... The AM was designed with de-tuning mind. I use PKs in a drop tuned neck-thru ESP NT-II, mahog body, maple neck-through, ebony board, thing is sick.

Peace,
Mo

PS - and also ask Tim about his recommendations.

Email BKP......I told them I wanted a bridge that could hold down a Pantera riff and a neck that would do Pink Floyd for my LP, and they recommended the Holydiver set. 17k bridge, 7k neck.

I find Painkillers make a LP sound a bit thin (though they're obviously amazing pickups). Go for a ceramic Nailbomb; it's a bit more organic. Or a Black Dog if you want something lower gain.

i have a bkp rebel yell and a vhii neck in a similar guitar. It is truly money.

I love the A-Bomb in my singlecut. I'm curious about the C-Bomb though.

Hard to beat a ceramic Nailbomb in heavy mahogany.........I hate the Pain Killer myself.....

Do yo have them yet? If so, how is the bridge model for tight riffing? I have really been thinking about trading my PK for a HD.

Alnico Nailbomb or Crawler are my favorites and work very well in mahogany.

Painkiller is cool but not that good for leads, sounds pretty thin on the high strings. I would say the Pk is a better option if you were tuning lower than drop D. Im not a huge ceramic BK fan though, I like there alnico pickups more and I play mostly modern metal. The alnico pickups are tight enough on the lows for me and have more pleasing highs to my ears.

  Ooooooooooooooooh, the OPTIONS!!!!! :hys:

Too many AWESOME pups to choose from really. The mention of the Blackdog above, ya, got a calibrated set in one of my Lesters ('68 Firemist) and it's just righteous sounding. Cuts like a knife, and has this mid growl that so tasty. But that's not what you're looking for.

Surprised to see little love for the PKs, I think for my application, they're the best (detuned NT-II, drop C)

Peace,
Mo

These BKP threads are always all over the place. I should just stay out of them.

I have a Holydiver in my chambered LP Studio. The sound is MASSIVE. Not real edgy, but rather detailed and balanced in terms of treble and bass. There's a lot of mids. I tune down to drop C#, even drop B one time, and the Holydiver still was clear.
