OK guys as you know I sold my xxx and now I'm without amp.
I figured that 6505 series from Peavey will be the best choice for me ( at least - for this moment).
I've got only two models which I strongly consider - 6505+ and 6534+.

6505+ - Legendary , classy , so much beloved by metal guitarist.
6534+ - 6L6GC was replaced by EL34 which gave it a Marshall Flavor and also preamp was a bit tweaked to produce less noise.

And now I'm fucked. I'm now like a woman in shoe shop , I can't decide.

I always liked a much this characteristic Marshall middy-punchy crunch(I must say that my fav record with marshalls el34 equipped was Endgame). But I also like the American scooped tone ( Pantera , Exodus ) and in addition - I love the EVH lead tone ... Just brilliant !
But beside this - I don't want to copy their tone.

I want a punch , smooth tone with clarity , full of guts tone that will work well with V30 (all three variants - Mesa , Marshall or regular) and EMG pickups or some passive ( I mean sh-5 or something from BKP).
Also, If you have a experience with this two amps - just describe it, I will be pleased.

Amps are for the same price - I can get them for about 1k new (I have price abatement in shop as a habitue) so the only factor is my personal choice ...

I would recommend a used Engl Savage 120, but maybe the new Randall Thrasher might work for you or the Diavlo? I would try both Peavy's out though in person before making a decision.

I want to avoid the ENGL's - they are really cheap constructed. My friend tried powerball II and the guts were so poorly made that it was huge shock for me. German made thing is poor made ? No way... In addition to this, other friend bought a ENGl SE with 6l6 - amp died month after. I don't remember what caused the problem but I'm sure that not the tubes. Another nail to the coffin - Even FJA don't want to modify the ENGL ... something must be in that matter.

Diavlo and Thrasher - Well I must wait a while for a bit more money ( half of March) and thrasher will be available about this time so maybe I will have an opportunity to try it.

My Engl Savage 120 never had problems and I had it for 7 years. My buddy has it now. I heard the newer ones are hit or miss as far as quality.

That's what I'm talking about :)
6505 series is a milestone in metal world and I think it will be a good point to start.
You had a experience with 6534 and 6505+ ? If yes can you tell me differences which you've heard ?

Can't comment on your amp choice, but have to say that I've been playing ENGL since 07 and never had a single problem asides from one set of blown p-tubes.

i would hold out for the thrasher. but if you need to pull the trigger on something get 5150 III 50 watt

I just pulled my response from another thread asking about a 6505+....I have one and love it.

'For the price to me, they're one of the best combos out there......the cleans aren't great, but the Lead channel is where I spend 99% of my time, and with a decently equipped guitar you can just flip to the neck and roll back vol and/or tone and have a decent clean; to me, that means something like a Slash 'November Rain solo tone'....that's not really this amp's forte, but it does a fairly good imitation. Is it a deep chimey clean? No...but it does let the sound of your guitar come thru...on my LPs its a nice deep woody tone with good note separation that blends together with some good crunch.

On the flip side, for the money you get one of the most brutal low mid-voiced gain channels on the planet...put a 10 band EQ in the loop and you have total control. I won't play it without one.

I don't really like it as well with actives; sounds kind of sterile to me, but it can do aggressive chugging with an EMG 81 all day long...I like it better with passives...this thing kills with some BKPs.

Anything $300 or under, you should snag it and then grab an EQ for the loop. If you don't really like low voiced mids and you don't play metal, don't bother. You probably won't like it and you won't make your $ back. Plus you can't ship it to sell it, cause it's a fuckin tank and would cost almost 2 bills to do so.

EDIT: wanted to add this because its my only gripe about this amp. It's loud. VERY loud. If you're looking for a bedroom amp, make sure you get the EQ and realize you're never gonna turn it up past 2. At 3 it'll shake your walls.'

I run mine thru an Orange cab w/English v30s, a HEAVY Les Paul w/BKP Holydivers and a 10 band EQ and I love it....I've tried other amps and always seem to come back to some variant of this series.

Thanks !
I'm now really confused ... 6505+ or 6534+
I wish I could try both but it's not possible - they are not in stock in shop ;/

 Good luck dude....as far as the above?

FJA mods the SHIT out of these things.....as good as they are, they sound thunderous after Jerry is done with them.

 did you used to like engl? Trying to figure out why your alias is engl and you are not considering one....

6505+ ... I bet the 6534 is good but Ive read a ton of reviews and guys are sayin it brakes up earlier and has those crunchy mids EL34s are known for. I think the 5150 sound is 6L6s man.. I have owned several 5150s , 5150 II's (6505, 6505+) and the 5150 III EVH.
They are all awesome IMO... Its a tone thats hard to beat and Ive had Diezels, Bogner, ENGL, Fryette , etc

I personally like the 6505+ a lot and would say go with that ... I just bought a new from Musicians friend a couple weeks ago and it slays..I used the 15% off coupon and got this limited edition head for like $1010 : https://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifie ... r-amp-head

Or you could obviously get a used one pretty damn cheap

If you decide 6534, PM Rabies...he bought one and has been trying to sell it for awhile now.
It is brand new, but I think he likes a different flavor of tone...namely his Rivera.

Check out this video we made when he bought the amp...
it pits the 5150 against the 6534

my friend owns a 6534+ its still noisy as hell, he still has to run a G Decimator, well, through his peavy cab it was, through mine it wasn't as bad ( mine has V30's)

So I will decided to pick used amp , not new. More cash will be in my pocket.

And now I only consider two amps :
-5150 or 6505.
-5150II or 6505+

Which one is smooth , dark and not harsh ? Which one is better for classic thrash metal/death ?
