I think the biggest problem you are running into is you want to sound as good through modelers and headphones at low volumes as you sound live, plus you want to do it on a budget. If you want it to sound top notch, get a Kemper. To just be able to run through your parts, ANY modeler will work. Doesn't have to sound brilliant to run parts with the band.

You may just have to lower your expectations a little maybe?

Not really. Any modeler will not work as I've tried 3 so far with the GT-10 being absolutely worthless. The cheapest of the things I've tried (zoom) sounded better than the higher end stuff. I know that it's not going to sound like a "real" rig but there has to be a happy medium. There are some devices that are designed specifically for playback through headphones as mentioned so far in this thread and really that feedback has been most helpful. To buy a Kemper for this application is ridiculous. I'm sure it would sound great and I would have a ton more flexibility but the cost to benefit ratio to me just isn't there. That and I'm completely happy with my current live set up.

Sorry i dont have any relevant input but, im guessing the drummer has to have an electric kit to make this work? Im so tired of dealing with places to practice a loud ass band i might need to look int this as well..

You can do it with acoustic drums but it kind of defeats the purpose. Our drummer has an electronic kit so the only things you hear are the vocals and the tapping on the pads. Pretty cool concept.

For $150 you cannot beat the Zoom G3...it sounds awesome and has up to 6 effects at once.
The drives are pretty convincing as are the amp models and delays/reverbs. Use mine all the time!

I've been practicing through a set of AKG 240's using an old iPad and the JamUp pro software with a couple of the expansion packs. I'm very happy with this setup, particularly the higher gain tones.

I practice through a set of HD280's using an iPhone 4S and the JamUp Pro software. My investment was the JamUp Pro software ($9.99) and an Apogee Jam ($99). I like it alot!

Sometimes I will unplug the headphones and run a line out to my stereo amplifier - even better!

Used 11R is a great value
I have a Kemper but kept the 11 because it has so many useful features & applications
singtall will hook you up with patches too!

Can you compare the 11R to the Kemper if possible?

I really want to give the 11R a shot since it does so many things. Can it run 2 models in stereo like the axe?
I don't know if tone comparison is quite fair, the Kemper sounds so damn lively & authentic. The 11R has some decent tones but is not in the same ballpark.
The 11R does have some decent Fender clean tones, I really love their Ampeg bass tones, the Bogner Blue is pretty cool, as is the Matchless..if you are an expert at the pre & post parametric eq (like singtall) you can carve out some inspiring sounds. I really love over the top metal hi gain, and the 11R just fell short for me, but if all financial hell breaks loose on mne, I could live with this as my primary unit and still enjoy my guitar. The tape delay is wicked cool also! This unit brought me PT8 and i really needed that... I could use the 11R in my tube amps for the fx, which sound solid to me...as an audio card it delivers and can reamp super easy. Lots to like here
I would not advise to pay the full new price (rather than 875 + tax at that point just keep saving up for a used KPA, unless you need PT), but a discounted or used 11R would be a great value!
