KT77 wins out every time for me A/B...

 I have tried the JJ KT77 which sound great in a lot of amps...I have a quad of Gold Lions on the way, gonna be cool to finally try those. Heard great things about them.

Of course it all depends on your amp's circuitry... brighter tube for a darker amp, and vice versa...

That being said, I have a thick-as-a-milkshake JTM45 mutt (I customized), and I use EH 6CA7s... spank 'n' clank and a deep bottom.

Tried Tung-Sols, but they had no sparkle. Very middy - prolly good for modern amps that are super-thin sounding.

EXTRA: For KT66s, Valve Arts used to be good; haven't used them in a long time though, so can't say.

I have used lots of JJs (EL34, E34L, KT77). If you get them from a dealer that burns them in, you should be good to go.

Ruby doesn't make tubes, but they test and burn in. Their EL34BSTR that has been mentioned here many times is actually a Shuguang (as is the TAD). I've got some of these for testing, but I haven't yet formed an opinion.
