The first one I owned was the very first run of the Malmsteen model (88 maybe?), I ended up selling it because the scallope was not very deep, low frets and it was a baseball bat. I have a Malmsteen neck on my Tele right now.
oops I got the date wrong, mines a 97 (small headstock). I wouldn't call the neck baseball by any means, but it is a little bigger than most stand strats I have played.......I think they changed to the 70's headstock in around 98 so maybe they slimmed the neck down a little before that

I think the necks are very similar between these two years.. People like to dog on these strats, but I think they are some of the best playing ones around.
