Bout a year ago i put a SD Distortion in my V. Basically it totally sucks. I have to roll the bass down on my OD pedal to -8db just to get a somewhat acctable sound. Also it sounds mushy probably becase it has too much lower mids. The guitar itself isnt mahogany (I dunno what it is). I need a new pickup in the bridge for sure. Any ideas?

Should be an alder body with a maple neck thru. I'd go with a Duncan Custom.

Custom eh. I have heard they sound pretty good in V's too. Either that or a Screamin Deamon or a JB... HMM.

Yeah, I've had the Custom in an alder body Vigier and a mahogany body Flying V and it sounded great in both. The JB doesn't sound that great in alder for heavy tones IMO. If you're going for 80's metal tones it would be good though, just not more modern stuff IMO.

I like my tone somewhere between modern and vintage, but no cock rock. The Distortion is way way too moderny for my tastes. It just doesn't sing.

Funny enough, I took apart the guitar wiring and there was all this active Jackson shit in there. I gutted all of that and rewired it with just the pickup selector (no tone pot). MUCH better. Holy crap, That damn preamp was shitting up my guitar tone for YEARS. Anyways I still don't like the pup but its a hell of a lot better. At least I feel confident I can rewire it now.

Mark recommended me the Custom/59 set up, at first I hated it, but it was just the wood of the guitar I hate. It's one of the better pickups for alder/ash bodied guitars.

I think im going to go with a JB. Wanna sell yours? I can also trade for a Distortion pup and/or a Boss SD-1. :D
