Best VH tone - VH or VH II? Which amp do I sell?

I'm trying to decide which one of my amps I should sell? My Cornford RK has a vintage sounding VH I type tone vs. the Soldano rack has a more percussive VH II type tone. I want to get a set of Roland TD20 V-Drums, so I need to sell one rig to help fund the purchase. Each amp has its own 'thing' happening, so it's difficult to decide which rig to liquidate... If pressed - which would you choose?

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I've always preferred Eddie's tone on VHII over VHI or any other VH album...to me it was his pinnacle, followed by Fair Warning and WACF, making VHI fourth for me in terms of actual guitar tone.

You're asking people who may not have heard both amps --and even if they had--to advise you about two amps which know very well?

Perhaps wait and save up for the drums sans selling an amp.

 VH II tone is the best sound Eddie has ever had!

I like VHII tone the most too.

I just spoke to a guy in Ocala who has a '72 Marshall JMP 100, Soldano HR100, and a JMI Vox AC30. Just when I thought I had purged the desire for a modeling rig, he's saying that he hasn't used either amp since purchasing an Eleven rack.

Ah yes...tone chasing. Never ever ends.
I pulled the plug a few years back on it. Was driving myself nuts. :D

Sounds like your setup is pretty sweet now.

Some Telefunken 12ax7s and KT66s will get yo into vintage territory in the SLO - just saying ;)

I agree,by far

I would stop worrying about Van Halen tone, and think about your own tone. What works for YOU the best.

You presume from a false assumption. I merely used Van Halen I and Van Halen II as a comparison example. Ed is great, but I'm more of a Michael Schenker fan.

Lat week you were going to stop writing original songs, and sell all your gear...

VH comparisons for retention purposes aside, they both sound like unique pieces, so... save up for the drums. Neither amp is easily replacable later. That's my rule usually.

Right on,

I'm flabbergasted that folks would think any tone is better than the VH1 tone!! :) I actually picked up playing guitar after hearing "Eruption".

+1

1 has the excited, angry, cocky debut magic for me. when i play that album cranked there is just something about it that feels alive and eddie's tone just crackles with energy.

but 2-fair warning are all good in my book. just a bit more refined and less "live".

check it yourself by playing those bad boys cranked!
