this guy just listed his peacemaker on ebay and has a great tone on this youtube clip:

I think it's more about the post-process.
But between the two, I'll take II (hehe)
However, out of all, it's WaCF for me.

post on the metro amp forum...those fanatics will you give you more information than you ever wanted to know

F.U.C.K. is just too washed out for me. So much chorus!!

The first album gets my vote.

I agree. I like the sound of VH II better than VH I but IMO, the guitar tone is nearly identical. The production is different. I have a bootleg from a show on the VH I tour where they play a couple off of the soon to be released VH II and the VH II songs live sound like how they sound on the record. So sell the one you like least...

I just spoke to a guy in Ocala who has a '72 Marshall JMP 100, Soldano HR100, and a JMI Vox AC30. Just when I thought I had purged the desire for a modeling rig, he's saying that he hasn't used either amp since purchasing an Eleven rack.
11rack is a cool piece, but....no

Of the two you listen, VH II by a mile. I sedcond the FUCK tone as my favorite though.

This thread is timely . I've always thought about VH' tones yet failed to find any discussions about it on the Internet.

;)

Sell the Cornford and use a Marshall Plexi NMV on 10 if you really want the brown sound.
Does'nt matter if your after VH1 or II , it's all about that Marshall midrange and power tube distortion.
No high gain master volume tube amp is going to get as close as the old school way.
The closest high gain amp in my book would be the SLO on the crunch channel with the master ran pretty high and the pre set where needed with the right speakers.

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I've always preferred Eddie's tone on VHII over VHI or any other VH album...to me it was his pinnacle, followed by Fair Warning and WACF, making VHI fourth for me in terms of actual guitar tone.
 VH II tone is the best sound Eddie has ever had!

Steve

+1

I'm going to hold onto the RK100 (for now). I'll run an Soldano SP-77 through my TC 2290 loop switcher - then into the RK100 effects return. The RT member who sold me the RK100 was also selling a Mark Abrahamian amp - which I of-course passed on! The Mod 5 VH II clips are quite impressive.

sell the cornford

get a CM plexitone & run it thru the soldano for VH1

Pete Thorn was right on about the plexitone

they should have called it the "EDDIEtone"

I would stop worrying about Van Halen tone, and think about your own tone. What works for YOU the best.

Tell'em what he won Johnny.

VHII is pretty crazy sounding though...

p.s. I have a playlist of all my fav VH tunes in iTunes and just scanned through about 5 sec of each. VH!! is pretty amazing, Dance The Night Away is my favorite tone. The right balance of cut without being harsh. Great tune too.
