Better modern 2203?

Which amp would say is a up to date 2203?

I want a 2203 with tighter bottom, a bit more gain and less trebly.

More open than a Friedman as well.
 
maybe not a 2203 clone but the new suhr pt100 sounds really great. Tons of gain and more open than a friedman. The small box sounds bit more open than a be100 to my ears.
 
I'd just run a 2203 through a 4x12 with Celestion 65's or 75W Scumbacks.
Boost it with an SD-1 or Tubescreamer.
Or try a Jubilee or 2210.
 
Smallbox is still too compressed.

Had a 2203kk, cool amp, but too loose in the bottom.

Diezel Paul is an option! I was thinking about the Friedman Phil X too, the most open amp Friedman has done.

Sounds like my 82 2204. Exactly. Not sure who modded it, got it cheap at a GC. Has a loop that works well. Very slight circuit changes but throw a boost in front and watch out. I'd look for a stock 800 and mod it. I can PM you pics of the circuit if you want. There is a small area that is gooped but I think its related to the loop.

But I already have a modded 2203 and a José modded 2203 here at home. I kinda wanted to buy a new amp! Hehe :lol: :LOL:
 
Gotcha! Forgot to say it also has almost Recto like low end available.. I can't put the bass past 5 or its too much. I'd seriously look at the Deliverance 60 here in the classifieds. Very open and organic, and plenty of low end. As someone else said a Jubilee has a great eq, different than a normal Marshall. But the D60 is very Marshally, one of the few amps that sounded best without a boost. Similar to an SLO in ways...articulation, bloom, and way more tight low end. D120 is smoother, less open IMO.
 
an older JMP/JCM800 2203 and just use a Boss SD-1 and GE7 in front
 
For me, +1 to the Fryette Deliverance as an updated/modern take on the 2203. Not a modded Marshall sound, really, but it immediately made me think of a 2203.
 
Another vote for the Deliverance. I owned the 120 and it was a great amp. Very open and raw but tighter in the low end than a stock Marshall 800/JMP.
 
Ceriatone Yeti. It's just a JCM800 with a Jose master and some bright/gain switches. Should do the trick just fine. And for a reasonable price.

This is similar to a Smallbox with SAT switch. Probably too much gain/compression for the OP.
 
Agree with the fryette mentions. I find my Pittbull CL50 to be a better 2203....bigger and tighter bottom end, tames a bit of the shrillness, superb fx loop. Retains all the articulation and thump....plus, great master volume. My pittbull sounds great at apt levels. Even moreso when u start pushing air. I still want a landry g3 but this 50cl is the best amp ive had for the $. :rock:

Totally different feel to the rest of the range, less compress & more immediate.
 
One of the Framus amps is supposed to be a modern JCM 800 I'm pretty sure. I think I read that somewhere?
