Beware of GC and MF charges.

Haven't bought from GC or MF in a long time. Last buy was from MF when they were blowing out Jet City 412's for like $300..
I would have never hung in that long. I would have called the Credit Card Company and get my cash back.
Otherwise it's been Sweetwater all the way.

Not going to bash them anymore than has already been done and well deserved, but just a bit of a heads up to the community having order issues. Please double and triple check your charges from them. And yes, before you ask I must be a masochist.

Ordered a new Gibson LP Studio for my daughter for Valentine's Day. 10 days later... "sorry we can't find this, it seems to be out of stock." (weird for an LP studio, but okay) 20 days later no refund. Call them up "hey where's my refund?" I ask. "Oh, sorry about that, here you go" -proceeds to charge my card again instead of refunding. Call back to get sorted. finally gets sorted a few weeks after that. A few weeks later it was charged again for the same charge, made no sense, called and got sorted after a few days passed.

Did the same thing to me a few weeks later just ordering some strings.

Come early summer order a used Legator "we're sorry, out of stock" -proceeds to repost for sale at a higher price, proceeds to charge my card again instead of refunding it, again. Call to get sorted -proceeds to charge me 2 more times instead of refund (4 charges at this point). Overdrafts my account. Bank freezes account and charges $350+ in fees. Takes a few weeks to get sorted. -Removes stored payment info on MF and GC.

Come mid last month order a LP Junior -proceeds to not ship, not answer phone, not respond to emails, not do anything but create a shipping label so that my bank charge goes through. Finally answers phone weeks later "YEAH, WHAT DO YOU WANT?!!!!" Says the person answering the phone. "I want my funking guitar, ahole" (in my head). I ask when my guitar will ship and they respond "It takes UPS about a week." Okay, that's not what I asked, "When do YOU plan on shipping my guitar? UPS can't deliver a package they haven't received." I say in the nicest way possible at this point. "I don't know when we get around to it." -hangs up phone on me, never answers again. -A week goes by and I call corporate, politely explain my issue. Email specific GC, again. Asking where tf is my guitar?" Tracking updates the next day to in transit. Cool, but worried that they f'd up my guitar maliciously after tattling to corpo. Finally arrives, everything is fine. Emails me yesterday, (or roughly a month later from purchase) full of gaslighting BS that "they shipped it out already, what is your problem?" basically. Literally acting as if I sent the email after I already received the gear.

So yes, I should know better than to order from either, but I buy a lot of gear and sometimes they have what I'm after. So, out comes the dice. Anyway, was recently told by a long time employee at my local GC that the bulk of their pay is commission and it is a common scam for an employee to charge you more than once, or charge you again during a refund so that it makes it appear as if they made a sale and hope the commission check comes through before someone realizes they've been charged again. So, do not under any circumstance keep your payment info saved on your account is what I was told. Sure enough it's ended that problem, and opened up a whole new issue that is so common apparently (3 of 7 orders this year, 1 of 3 orders of my husband's.), that it has to be sanctioned by corporate.

It's funny that I thought if I add a bunch of crap to my cart and close the website, I'll get the usual call from "my gear advisor" -"hey are you too stupid to figure out how to checkout and need me to do it for you?" So that way I could tell them get my order to me that I've already placed, but they never called. Which is odd considering they call me 3x or more a week anywhere between the hours of 3am and 11pm to make sure I'm not dumb enough to understand how to check out. Anyways, I'm done with the rant. Now onto ordering something else from them...

TL;DR: Yeah, I probably wouldn't have either...
I ordered a bass through a sales rep last year. The bass and it's packaging arrived smelling so foul I had to leave it outside. Took me two weeks to get the smell out of the room and it was only inside for maybe 5 minutes. I immediately called MF and the rep there basically said to call back some other day because he wasn't the one that sold it to me and he doesn't want to deal with it. Took about an hour and a half of lighting them up to get them to accept a return and exchange it for another bass, which I now had to pay an additional $200 for because they refused to give me the same deal on a different color. Fuck those assholes. I will never do business with them again.

I ordered from a GC sales rep and it was fine. I called in to try to see if they could match someone else's B-stock price on a 4x12 and they were able to get close so I went with GC. It arrived and was perfect.

I've always wondered this about GC. I'm sure someone here knows much more about this than me..............was GC ever any more substantial than a target, perhaps at one time an attractive target for private equity?

If what's out there in print can be believed, GC has been a "dead man walking" for at least the past 10 years I'm aware of.

There has to be more to the story.

When will the pestilence aka Guitar Center finally be eradicated?

Yes, at one point back in the day GC rocked. Huge badass used sections, killer vintage stuff. They did close down a lot of Mom and Pops eventually though which really sucked. Then they got bought out, and everything changed. I also really liked Mars Music when they were open too...it seemed like they had a way more relaxed atmosphere and cooler stores.

Oh hell no. Two people in this thread with the same scam tactics? I’d be contacting the BBB and getting the local news involved
Yep, if it's two people in just this community having it happened, something is afoot.

I thought some of the murmuring is that if GC goes down, FMIC and Gibson and others will be in a world of hurt because of how they and GC have been accounting for their sales. So it's in nobody's interest to have GC fail.

I personally don't want them to fail, as I don't think mom and pops are going to be popping up overnight to replace them if they did. I just want them to get their act together.

Wow, that story is F'ed up. I'd flip out if that had happened to me.
My other half agrees with your tactic. I guess I have too much patience for BS. Perhaps dealing with a couple of teens in my home has made other issues seem less stressful, I dunno. Honestly, I find the constant persistence of the gear advisory to be a bigger issue than something I know my bank would eventually resolve if I handed it over to them. But thought I should at least give others a heads up and double check their statements in case this is a widespread issue.

With the hundreds and hundreds of stores they have, there's always an item here and there that are priced under the market. Just have to look, and often. Latest and greatest for me is a 1986 Jackson USA pointy; factory Floyd and maple neck. 1100. This is the best vintage Charvel/Jackson I've owned.

This is mostly the reason for my continuous patronage to them. That and my local shop doesn't carry 7-10 string sets for my multi-scales. Neither does GC for the most part, so I buy two different sets and piece what I want together out of them. The moral being; when you're tired of that old Charvel, let me know...

My advice is this: Stalk the used Charvel/Jackson sections every day...or at least Mondays/Tuesdays. That's when the new 'fire sale over the weekend' stuff gets listed.
About 4 months ago they had a 1984 Charvel for 799. No pic, but it was gone super fast. They do appear from time to time. Another 84 I found there was listed as a model series...but you could clearly see the gold Charvel logo.

That is utterly unacceptable. I would be god damned furious if that happened to me.

But like racerxrated mentioned, I shop as a “guest,” and they’ve left me alone, but all I order is cases of strings, packs of picks, etc.

I remember guys getting really good deals on cabs and guitars on guitar center used. Guess those days are over. Like everywhere else.

I still do? That 1986 Jackson, 3 months ago for 1100....just fewer and far between over the past few yrs

Anyone know if other musicians deal with the same crap that play different instruments? If people are ordering Tubas and Tuba related gear, do they get fucked by companies or is it just guitarists?!?!
