Being hooked up to gas sucks. Go gig until three a.m and then come home and the fire/police are blocking your road "sorry gas main break you can't go to your home" and you're forced to get a hotel room and get reimbursed later. Big no thanks on being hooked up to grid gas.
It's more reliable than electricity by a very large margin.

And for about 15 years now pretty much every gas company in the nation has been upgrading all the old CI mains to poly. Which never break due to weather. Unless they are hit by someone digging, you gone get yo gas brah.

I don't have any faith in anything grid tied anymore. The break water mains around here as a matter of routine.

Those are all getting replaced by plastic too.

I still feel ya though brother. I get electricity from a pole, everything else I get for myself.
Out here the water lines are all pvc. On average either through breakage or water co upgrades the water goes down once a month, which means a 72 hour boil water notice, and you don't get the notice until two or three days after it happens. They doubled our water bill starting about 3 months ago. Went from $40/mo to about $80 bucks....

I have two wells. Both deep. And I have the means to run the pumps if the electricity goes down. It's a little bit of a pain in the ass so I don't generally resort to it for the regular type outages, but I also have usually anywhere from 12 to 20 5 gallon bottles of Absopure on hand at all times too. Plus I would guess 10 emptied 5 gallon bottles of regular water which are capped and can be used to flush toilets or supply the slop sinks in the shop and in the garage.

After the week long freeze in '21 and no power/water for a week I bought a Norwesco 1250 gallon rainwater tank that I just keep treated with bleach. I was able to survive because I had a woodstove which I could cook basic items on, and I had a 100 gallon rubbermaid feed trough full of water. The week before it happened I had gotten a 5 gallon stock pot for dipping/defeathering chickens so I could keep a bunch of clean water on hand. By the time the storm was over I had maybe 15 gallons left in that rubbermaid tub, so I ordered the tank.

You're near a major city no ?
Well sort of - I'm about 35kms from the city centre and right on the edge of what we call suburbia which is different to what you mean by a suburb - but if you think of where I live as surrounded by national parks and the last sort populated bit before you are on a freeway right out of Sydney then that's about the sum of it.

One of the reasons Government exists is to provide services that are uneconomical for free enterprise to provide. And this is another reason the US has crap internet in the country whereas Australia has provided it to regional Australia.
The doctors don't even have to rig the system themselves, big pharma is taking care of that. With help from Healthcare conglomerates. The absurdity of someone making $2,500 per month needing an injection costing $25,000....no way that adds up.

Unfortunately you all missed the window. 2016, 2020 were the opportunities to get money out of politics, elect Bernie and take power back from the billionaires. Ah well. Kleptocracy it is, as the empire declines.
Bernie has gotten too rich off politics to be trusted. He's pretends to talk the talk but really he thinks green $$$ like all politicians.

The only thing I knew about Bern during the 2020 election was that my absolute tool of a boss at the time loved the guy, so he instantly lost my vote.
Actually I don’t think I even voted at all in that election, was that Trump/Biden?
