Big F**king Wreck!!!

ONe of my favorite bands from the 90's. Such a shame they were mostly overlooked and ignored in the States for such crap bands like Limp shitquick korn.
 
when i saw them live he was using fender bassman/bandmaster heads. was one of the best shows ive ever seen

Never heard of 'em, but +1 on the Limp n; Korn! ;) Never saw the point personally, but I know opinions are like arseholes: everyones got one, some stink.

But I grew up with Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Death, Sepultura, Overkill, Testament, Pantera, Morbid Angel...so what do I know? :doh: to each their own.

I saw them in 1997 right after their first album came out and he was using JCM800's and Matchless amps as well. They were excellent live. Right around the same time i saw that band Fuel, and they were also very good live. They were another good band from the 90's.

Great band. Something about the mix on the Pleasure and the Greed always bugged me alot. I know they layered a TON of guitars, maybe just too much. I loved the 1st album and liked the songs on the 2nd, just hard to digest IMO. Thornley(the band) is pretty good too. They are supposed to be coming out with a 2nd album soon.
 
His new band Thornley is even better IMHO. He thickened up is sound a lot and the songwriting just got better. Check out the album Come Again. I've seen him live about three times in the last three years and he was using Triple Rec's through Mode Four cabs.

+ 1 Fuel was right up there with Big Wreck. great fuckin bands. I never saw Big Wreck, but i did see Fuel open up for Aerosmith, had no idea who they were.. prety much layed me out with their performance, hooky tunes and tightness.

I didn't like Thornley that much. They reeked of Knickleback influence.

Meh, their songs are more complex and layered than nickelfuck. Better guitar tone, and vocals too.
 
Now I like Big Wreck, but I love Thornley. Yes, you can hear the Chad Kroker influence, but that disc just kills in MHO.

Didn't Chad Kroeger produce and write half of the Thornley album? What i didn't like about Thornley is it got away from the rock sound of Big Wreck and the Led Zep influence present in the Big Wreck songs was gone in favor of 3 minute Knicklesuck formula, and the Recto style tones were lame.
 
I was under the impression that Ian wrote the songs on the Thornley disc, and that Chad Kroeger produced the album- hence the sonic fingerprint. I actually liked the tones on Come Again. I think that the tone on "Easy Comes" is just monsterous. From what I've heard, you should like the new Thornley disc. It sounds more like BW.
 
Thanks for the vids! They are such a great band and the Thornley album is very good too.

Ian Thornley needs no help writing songs :lol: :LOL: Being a Berklee grad and all. Lot's of downtuned C# tuning, open tunings and 12 string stuff on Come Again too. The album was recorded at 605 studios, but to my knowledge Chad wasn't behind the board.
 
I didn't think anyone in the US even knew who Big Wreck was, awesome :) I just assumed that they never got big in the States because they were Canadian (well, I know Thornley is at least). There are a whole bunch of bands who are huge here in Canada but never seem to hit the same level south of the border (The Tragically Hip, Matthew Good Band, etc).

Their first album is still my fav, "Blown Wide Open" has some great bass work in it. The thing that's most irritating for me is that Thornley can rip, but he never seems to do it on record, only at the live shows! His solo stuff is great because it's heavier, but I found the songs to be more similar and predictable.

Kroeger has never produced any of Thornley's stuff to my knowledge...they're just on Kroeger's record label (I'm pretty sure, but not 100%). Looking forward to the new album!

Oh man you guys have some great bands and we Americans arent so ignorant of the talent you guy have and Im not talking about Nipplecrack I mean Nickleback :lol: :LOL:

I've liked a few bands in past..... for example The Tea Party are awsome!
