Big Midrange Sound Difference: Mesa Tremoverb/Peavey 6505+/Marshall

When you pull the presence out on a Mark IV you can get a lot more cut out of the amplifier as it makes the upper midrange more present and the treble more clear sounding. It's one of those things I sometimes did when playing with another player who had a Marshall or similar type of amp.

I did this at band practice tonight, it really worked quite well in the mix.

Don't get me wrong; I love a good Mark tone..4 C+, all sounded killer and had more cut with a slight boost up front. I played a IV at a store and was very impressed; much more than the 2 Mk 3s I owned briefly.
I ran my 72 boosted with my C+ Coli, ABY pedal and was shocked at how I could only hear the low end thump, but nothing else of the Coli. I ran my C+ with ch1, pulled/dimed, treble pulled/dimed, presence dimed....and boosted with the mid heavy OD1X. Still buried.

Sounds like somethings wrong with your C+ Coli because my mark III++ Coli can bury my Laney, my 101B, and both Marshall’s since they get saggy with volume not louder. The only amp it can’t touch is my modded 5150 II that cuts like a knife.

I played Mesa amps with guys using Marshall amps for decades. I don't remember it ever being difficult.

But occasionally have run into individuals that thought it was. I never played in bands with any of these people.

i dont know if its been mentioned, and my experience has been primarily rectos over the years; but ive hated the loop in every one of them and just having the loop ON has sucked tone.... i would turn the loop off and see if it mitigated any of your issues..

There was a clip of Mastodon recording a song back in 2007 or so when Bill used a JMP and Brent used a Rectifier--this exact phenomenon was obvious and stuck with me ever since.

That's a Dual Rec, not a Mark Series. Rectifiers are very scooped amps, but i'm sure you could make one work with a modern marshall.

Nothing wrong with that coli, at all. It was turned into a C+ from a B in 2019, by Mike B. Loaded with all 415s, and Chinese/Tungsram 12ax7s. It was, in a word, perfect. A monster. I ran all my Marks the same way...very bright but not honky...750 down just below midline, smile shape eq. Presence dimed, treble pulled/dimed, vol 1 pulled, dimed. As bright and cutting as you can get.
But, as killer as it was, the 100T is even more so. Double boosted, it puts out close to 300 watts at distortion(stock, unboosted Marshall rates them at 160w.) It simply cuts MUCH MUCH better than any Mesa could hope to do, since the mids already sit at a much higher frequency.

If your Marshalls don't out-cut your Mesa, then I'd say there's something wrong with your Marshall OR you simply dial it much darker than I do. Since you seem to be a pretty solid tech, I'd guess it's the latter. After all, you love a Bogner and everyone knows how dark they tend to be.
