So... He's asked if he plays "guitar hero"...

He says, "Why would a guitar hero want to play Guitar Hero"?

ya... like he's a guitar hero.

Millions of meh-indifferent-almost-fans just got the impression this guy is a Yngwie/Noel Gallagher type.

What an asshole. Nice job shooting yourself in the foot you always watch, hunched over, banging out a bunch of mediocre, fuzzy riffs, whining, looking all like Jamie on Small Wonder.

 :gethim:

I admit that I don't listen to that crap band for several reasons (whiney voice, mushy guitar tones, etc...), but aren't his guitar skills right up there with Kurt Cobain? In other words, isn't he just a half-assed rhythm player without any mad SKILLZ?

Actually, he can rip it up. There are a bunch of old vids of him doing so. I also saw him with Zwan and he can play.

What else did you expect from Rock N Roll Kojak?

Maybe so, but he's not known for being a great guitar player. I would think to be a guitar hero you would need to be publicly considered a great guitarist, and he's known for being a good songwriter and solid rhythm guy.

Along time ago I saw some early home video footage of Corgan from the 80's (was on some tv show about him can't remember) when he was a teen and he was playing 80's flashy type stuff pretty convincingly believe it or not.

Obviously he jettisoned that style for what he would later become lol..

Billy Corgon wrote some great songs but he has always been a douche.

I cant stand Corgan's arrogance at all and a lot of his songs post Cherub Rock album are lame and his vocals sound like a whiney little bitch.

THAT SAID....

Their first album Gish is great. Awsome songs on there. Cherub Rock wasnt bad either but want as good as Gish IMHO.

As far as the comments about him sucking as a guitar player... I dont buy that. I've seen them live and he can play. Does he do your typical fast runs modal wankery?? Nope his solos fit their songs and arent bad.

Gay costume aside I've heard much worse solos than this one.

Kinda OT..... Jimmy Chamberland the drummer is fucking awsome. One of best drummers to come out of the 90's along with Matt Cameron and Dave Grohl.

Yeah, I seen those old videos of him ripping on some arpeggios and some speek picking. Who would have thought.

I would love to see the context in which this was said, if it was a video or whatnot...Simply seeing it on paper completely loses context.

I used to be a huge SP fanboy, and I can tell you that in as much as he is arrogant, he is that much more sarcastic.

I would be willing to bet he was being completely sarcastic in his reply.

Also, he may seem like he lacks skills, but the dude can play. Maybe it isn't 80's flash wankery, but the dude knows his way around a guitar. I'd call him a musician rather than just a guitar player anyway, but I digress.

It's easily seen that his style probably isn't the taste of 99% of the guys here, but to pass him, his songwriting or his playing off as mediocre or bad is more arrogant as a listener than his comment about GH was as a player.

Granted, the dude doesn't have a pleasant voice, but tonal arguments are too subjective.

I agree. He's not what I would consider a guitar hero either. Mind you, I've never played the game but they don't really have a bunch of 80's wanker solos, right? I also think he made that statement cause his ego is ginormous.

Well, I just thought it was an arrogant thing for a rythym player (at best) to say. Personally, I wouldn't cross the street to see him play.

Funny that he's under the illusion that he's some "guitar god" hahahaa!!!
What a Tool...

My response to Corgan would be, " I'm not sure why a guitar hero would want to play the game either. I'll go ask Eddie Van Halen and find out.

And yes, Corgan may be able to play, somewhat. But so can a million other people. He's no guitar hero. He can write good songs but he has no business singing or playing guitar because he can't sing, and his guitar playing is as average as what you'll hear from any average bar band.

What I dont get is the seeming disdain and out right dismissal of majority of the music of the 90's as complete angst riden crap. Im mean to each his own but everytime a thread comes up about the 90's or band from that era there is the inevitable 90's alternative sucked comment. Ok I get it you dont like and the 80's are over. Lets move on. So it may not be your cup of tea but to say there wasnt some great songs written by bands other than STP in 90's makes me really go.....

I think there was a TON of great stuff from the 90's. In general, the songwriting was much better than all the cheese shit from the 80's, although the guitar playing was superior in the 80's.

STP, AIC, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Live, Big Wreck, just a few great 90's bands. Corgan is still a douche though :D
