Its all good ! No more fade outs.
Some guy is asking you something on the Poundcake thread....

How do you know that it wasn't meant to be tongue in cheek?

Sound like a smart-assed answer to a stupid question to me.

Judging by the posts, I'm really in the minority here, but I really, really loved Smashing Pumpkins in the early '90's. I thought the Siamese Dream CD had some incredible tones and as somebody else has said, Jimmy Chamberlain on drums was phenomenal. At the time, I believe they were a very credible alternative to some of the really crappy grunge stuff. I think they had some very ambitious musical intentions.

The video below is one of my favorites. I think it shows that they had an energetic stage presence and gave the crowd just about all they could handle...and just when the song energy was peaking, the bottom falls out and they go into the soft section. I happen to think they do that very well.

If anything, watch for Jimmy Chamberlain!

Billy certainly isn't the first rock star to be an asshole and won't be the last. That could have been a sarcastic comment anyway, since there are pumpkins songs in GH. Either way, it doesn't change my opinion that the pumpkins are one of my all time favorite bands and were a breath of fresh air for much of the 90's.

nwright is correct!!...define guitar god??...if it means yingvay or whatever his name is...then you can have every guitar god out there...there was a time when people like page,..clapton,..hendrix,...beck where guitar gods,...why??..cause they sounded awesome!!!..not because of how fast they are!!

and when did all this shit happen???...it happened with eddie vanhalen!!...every kid wanted to be the fastest...so thats where we are today,..if your not fast..you suck!!.....which is really a shame...it marked the end of guitarists as musicians,..it turned them into technique twits!!...how many times in this dam topic did we hear about sweep picking etc!!....

i hate (well for the most part anyways)..the 80 hair bands...useless fluff..with no musical worth at all really..but there are a few exceptions...one of which is george lynch...and i read a interview with him back in the day in guitar player,...and he mentioned that he didnt feel his playing was up to par...BECAUSE HE WASNT THE FASTEST!!!....WTF!!!!!!!!!!

if your playing has no soul...it is worthless.....i would take someone like tony iommi anyday over any shred-a-holic!!

music is for the ears!!!....not to impress some 17 year old wanna be guitar god...

the world is all fucked up

ya damn right man; right on the money.

You guys are missing the point - only guitarists think guitar heros have to have good technique or be talented. The rest of the world wouldn't know the difference.

I'm gonna agree here. Except for the 'talented' part. To me, technique and talent aren't interchangeable.

If you have talent, and have GIGANTIC STYLE... then you might be a guitar hero. Technique is kinda optional IMO.

Slash comes to mind.

i admit i like and listen to the band.

but jeez

That's a shitty thing to say :gethim:

A little off topic, but I personally think billy corgan looks extremely wierd with hair.

I think herodom sets in when you get the cover of any major guitar mag...

I think everyone's overreacting just a little bit, and I'm not even that big a fan (i just like that song bullet with butterfly wings), but a lot of the stuff on rock band or guitar hero is from bands that got famous and don't necessarily have crazy guitar parts, or at least aren't known for being virtuosos.

Plus, I kind of get what he's saying from a guitar player point of view. I know some guitar players that like the video game, but after playing it a few times I felt for me personally (let me clarify, just how i personally feel for my own playing, not saying that anyone else should feel this way) it was a waste of time because i thought "why am I pretending i can play this song on guitar, when I really can...or at least I could spend my time learning to play it rather than 'fake' playing it". To me playing guitar was more fun than the video game by a long shot, but for some they're both really fun, and that's fine. If as a weekend warrior/hobbyist I don't get excited about playing a video game about playing guitar, I can see why someone in a world famous band wouldn't be so excited about playing a video game where you pretend to be in a famous band. I can definitely see how it can come off as arrogant, and if I heard the interview I could be a better judge of his intention, but I saw it as more of a rip on guitar hero and the way interviewers are now frequently ask every guitar players if they play the video game.

I got allot of enjoyment listening to Smashing Pumpkins back in the day, Gish , Siamese Deream, even adore all have great tunes..and that's what it's about for me.. that said, Corgan has been a tool in print more than once!

Plus the wall of feedback Corgan produced on the tail end of Drown from the singles soundtrack is breath taking!

we could pull the reverse and talk about how a band like Lynch mob or Ratt had amazing leadwork but the songs were largely crap with uninspired , unimaginative rhythm playing and lyrics!

BC writes great songs. Gish, and Siamese have a place in my heart.
