This is a black star body that I bought. The owner thought based on the person he bought it from that it was a time capsule Charvel prepro star body, but I was pretty skeptical from the condition/shape and it's pretty clear now it's either late 80s Charvel or a GMW body.

It has a Musikraft neck - really FAT, clay dots, brass side dots, nice birdseye. I've had this one sitting around for awhile, so I put an obviously fake Charvel logo on, did 20 coats of satin clear and then sanded it down so the logo is flush. Looks like a silkscreen. The neck was originally had a Floyd shelf, but I had Orange County Guitarworks do a new nut for me on a little ebony shelf they built - works great!

Had some crown head tuners sitting around, so I used those. It's an old Charvel star plate #4825.

All brass parts from Frets On The Net, except the bridge and the knob which are new. Got them from OC Custom Guitars.

That is a 1975 Dimarzio Dual Sound (basically a Super Distortion that can be split) and original ring.

Obviously, this thing is all over the place from a historical standpoint, but what the hell... :D

Guitar sounds and plays great! Love the fat neck.

All I need now is a tremolo cover. A regular Fender strat one works, but the string slots don't line up with the tremolo.

Oh... in case anyone wants to see how they reconstructed the nut from the Floyd shelf, here it is:

Looks really cool except for the nut. It sticks out like a sore thumb. Why not use maple to fill in the nut shelf?

Really sexy guitar. I might want to order something like this through the Charvel custom shop.

Looks like no more of a sore thumb than a black Floyd nut (or any Floyd nut for that matter). ;)

Nothing was ever going to match this birdseye maple. Would have looked terrible to do it in maple, IMO. I love the way the ebony shelf looks. YMMV...

Looks great! my first pro guitar was a parts guitar, Charvel Star with a Performance Guitar neck and brass bridge, would always hate when I broke those whammy bars inside of the bridge though haha

Man you must have been going crazy on the bar. I've never broken a screw in bar...

Why not just use a Floyd nut?
Because I didn't want one, obviously.

How would you tune it without a fine tuning Floyd? Not gonna unscrew the nut every time something goes out...

OK then, just asking!  Wasn't sure what the reason was. You could always just leave it unlocked. Either way cool looking axe.

That looks great Steve. I love all the parts from different years. Very cool. The shelf filling the floyd hole is especially cool!

I love star guitars, especially with a single humbucker !!!
Nice score !!
I have a white 82 voyager and will never part with it !!!

Sorry, didn't mean to bite your head off. ;)

Yeah, I guess you could just leave the Floyd nut unlocked, but I think they look kinda ugly that way - worse then the nut reconstruction. It really looks cool to me in person!

Yeah, this is a bit of a plain jane, but I dig how clean it is. One color, one pickup and a volume.

Let's see that Voyager!
